In the OpenRoads Designer 24.01.00.62 release, a problem was discovered where no Terrains are being created from Survey Field Books when selecting the Create Terrain Model or Create Terrain Model from Select Set commands from the right-click menu.
Until this problem is resolved in the next release, three possible workarounds are listed below to create a terrain from the survey data.
Adjusting any survey point property will generate or update the terrain model. For example, temporarily change the Terrain Model Attribute to a different setting (Not Set/Determine by Feature Definition/Do Not Include/Spot) and then back to the original setting.
If the Survey Settings have the “Create Terrain Model” setting set to True, then the terrain will be regenerated when any change is made to the Terrain Model Attributes.
Limitations of this solution is that a terrain model will be generated for all fieldbooks, and it does not allow creating a terrain from a Select Set.
Right-click on the model name in the Survey Data list and temporarily “Deactivate Survey Processing Rules”, then set back to Activate Survey Processing Rules. If the Survey Settings have the “Create Terrain Model” setting set to True, then the terrain will be regenerated when the rules are activated.
Limitations of this solution is that any manual edits of the imported observation data will be reverted back to their original location when the ruled are re-activated. Also, a terrain model will be generated for all fieldbooks, and it does not allow creating a terrain from a Select Set.
If possible, utilize the OpenRoads Designer 2024 (24.00.00.205) release for generating terrains models from survey. Since the 2024 and 2024 Update 1 releases are 100% compatible without any upgrade or downgrade required, they can be used seamlessly with one another.
