How to create single alignment along 2 different existing tracks

Introduction

In some cases you must create an alignment that is begining or ending on an existing track 1 and is running along existing track 2.
How can you manage this with your regression information

Instructions

You must manage points where you must change the existing track. This is because the points from track 2 won't be used and points from track 1 will be used instead.
But you don't want to delete points and points cannot belong to 2 different regression lines.

One possible workflow is:

  • Change regression points of both track to set them asĀ Ignored
  • Copy a set of regression points of track 1, or report and import (see below)
  • Add copied points to regression line of track 2

To keep elevation on duplicated points, I suggest to:

  1. select the points
  2. do a horizontal points report
  3. save as text file and edit to better control names and feature definition
  4. Import point (from Ascii)
  5. Select points (Point filter could help)
  6. Add points to regression line
