ProjectWise 365 Upgrade to Infrastructure Cloud

ProjectWise 365 Upgrade to Infrastructure Cloud

Introduction

As part of our ongoing efforts to create the best user experience across the entire lifecycle through Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, we are consolidating our portals into only one – Infrastructure Cloud Portal.

By accessing all your projects and data from a single location, you will gain new capabilities and more integrated and collaborative workflows across design and build phases, resulting in more successful project delivery outcomes.

This is why we created a tool that will allow Project Owners and CONNECT Administrators to Upgrade ProjectWise 365 projects to Infrastructure Cloud Design Projects.

Before you start upgrading your PW365 projects

There are several things you need to know before you start the upgrade process:

Entitlements / Licenses

ProjectWise 365 projects need different entitlements than Infrastructure Cloud – Design projects.

While PW365 projects need a ProjectWise 365 and ProjectWise Design Review, Infrastructure Cloud Design projects take advantage of Manage, Engineer and Validate entitlements, which not only will give the users access to Design projects, but also define the maximum set of permissions.

***Important***

Bentley’s policy is to set the Default Access configured at the Entitlement/Licenses Management service for every application as Allowed, meaning all users in an Organization are allowed to use any Entitlement.

If Everyone is granted access to Manage, Engineer and Validate, all users who access a Bentley Infrastructure Cloud - Design project in their organization (or an external project that is setup as with Bring Your Own License), will consume a Validate entitlement disregarding the role assigned at the project level

To know more about Entitlements – please read this article.

As Best Practice, you should always check if Manage, Engineer or Validate entitlements have been Allowed/Denied for users in your organization to prevent incuring excess costs.

To know how to configure Entitlements – please read this article.

Entitlements / Permissions

In ProjectWise 365, ProjectWise 365 entitlement does not define the set of permissions users may have when they access a project, therefore everyone has access to all the features, with the exception of Design Review, Design Validation and Dashboard which require a ProjectWise Design Review. Permissions/Restrictions must be set by Roles.

In Infrastructure Cloud design projects, Manage, Engineer and Validate entitlements will define the maximum set of permissions users will have when they access the project. Permissions can be restricted further using Roles, but you cannot grant permissions higher than the entitlement allows.

ProjectWise 365 Upgrade – Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is PW365 being deprecated?

A. PW365 is being upgraded to support the Infrastructure Cloud Portal.  While the URL “Projectwise365.Bentley.com” will be going away, the technologies that makeup those projects will be used in the same ways in a more flexible, more expandable way at Infrastructurecloud.bentley.com. Eventually, there will be no more projects created in the ProjectWise365 portal, but existing projects will be accessible at the new URL, and we will continue to allow users to upgrade to newer functionality at the pace they desire.

Q. Will user’s current PW365 login credentials work on Infrastructure Cloud Portal?

A. Yes. User’s current PW365 login credentials will provide them with access to their projects on the Infrastructure Cloud Portal, although their level of access will be determined by their entitlement – Manage, Engineer, Validate -  Refer to this table for more information.

Q. Will any of my data or connections be lost or interrupted because of the upgrade?

A. No interruption of service or connections will occur because of the upgrade and no data will be lost.

Q. Can I choose if I want to Provide License to external team members or not?

A. In Infrastructure Cloud Design projects, Project Owners may choose if they want to Provide License to external team members. Please refer to this article for more information.

After upgrading a ProjectWise 365 project to Infrastructure Cloud Design project, it is always a Best Practice to check if Provide License for external team members option is turned off or on. Just go to Administration – Manage Project Details. You can find this setting at the bottom of the page.

Q. Will this upgrade affect my existing Work Area Connections to ProjectWise?

A. No. Work Area Connections and ProjectWise Drive settings will be the same. Users will be able to continue working as they were in ProjectWise 365.

Q. What will happen with my Office 365 co-authoring settings?

A. Office 365 co-authoring settings will remain the same. No need to re-configure the settings.

Q. Where do I find Enterprise Services to modify PW Drive, Co-authoring, Document Wizard and Component Center?

A. Enterprise Services can be found at the top right corner of the header, to the left of the Resource Center. Please refer to this article for more information on Enterprise Services.

Q. How will this upgrade affect the External Organizations and their projects (used to Collaborate with Deliverables Management)?

A. Upgrading your ProjectWise 365 projects to Infrastructure Cloud Design projects will not affect your External Organizations and their projects used to Collaborate with Deliverables Management. External Organizations do not need to upgrade their ProjectWise 365 projects to Infrastructure Cloud.

Q. Will I be able to pay for External Organizations invited to Collaborate with Deliverables Management usage? How will I manage their Entitlements?

A. Project Owners may select which External Organizations invited to Collaborate through Deliverables Management they want to cover the costs for. All participants in the covered External Organizations will consume a Manage entitlement and have Manage permissions. Please refer to this article for more information.

Q. What will happen with my iModels and their connections? Will they still work?

A. Current iModel connections will still work. These connections are the same as in PW365. These iModels will have a PREVIOUS-GEN tag. You will be able to resynchronize existing connections and create new connections using the PW365 synchronization service which will remain available.

Empty iModels or New iModels will be able to use Infrastructure Cloud connections and will benefit from its new features. Please refer to this article for more information.

Existing PW365 iModels can be used to Create Composite iModels along with new iModels.
