Warning Code 1024 - EN 13445 Annex G / EN 1591 : FLANGE 31.06: the nominal design stress of bolts

Question:

When analyzing a model in AutoPIPE Vessel the following warning number was reported.

1024      EN 13445 Annex G / EN 1591 : FLANGE 31.06: the nominal design stress of bolts must be determined by the same rules as used for nominal design stress of flanges and shells.

Why and how to avoid it?

Answer:

This warning message indicates that, according to code EN13445 Annex G, the allowable stresses for bolts should be determined using the same rules as those applied to shells and flanges.

Unfortunately, Appendix G is not consistent with the determination of allowable stresses as per EN 13445. It is not feasible to have two different rules for bolting allowable stresses within the same design code.

Workaround :

    1. Use a non bolting material for the bolts to meet this absurd rule.
    2. It is also possible to input the allowable stresses in the material tab.
