Error Code 37 - STRESSES AND DISTORTIONS : Stress(es) exceed(s) allowable

Question:

When analyzing a model in AutoPIPE Vessel the following warning number was reported.

37        STRESSES AND DISTORTIONS : Stress(es) exceed(s) allowable (Operation (Normal Wind) (1 D + 0.6 W) (Corroded inertias) (New Weight))

Why and how to avoid it?

Answer:

After generating a complete output report, find under the Vessel combination loading section, "Stress and Distortion"> Warning  for the appropriate load case mentioned in the error message (ex. (Operation (Normal Wind) (1 D + 0.6 W) (Corroded inertias) (New Weight)).  Then scroll up through the report to find the troubled area(s).

Example.

As seen in the example above, the minimum required thickness is 0.13 in but the model setting is currently 0.1 in.

Solution:

After modifying the component so "tmin" is less than "t", the error message will no longer be displayed.
