Q. For En13445, why are the values of epsilon 1+ and 1- reported as different values?


Give the following:

from the code, table G.8-2 Indicative values of epsilon 1+ an 1-:

calculations for epsilon 1+ and 1- are identical and the equations for Epsilon n+ and n- are the same.

Answer: 

The value of epsilon 1+ is taken from this table. However, the value of epsilon 1- is not taken from this table. The value is clearly defined in section G.6.5.2 of the code. 

According to clause G.6.5.2 (a), the value of ε(n−) must be determined using ε(1−) = 0.5. This requirement supersede the value specified in Table G.8-2. Please refer to the code requirement below,
