Adding Sensors to an Image and Displaying Sensor Data

Adding sensors to an Image is done via the IoT Sensors widget. Once the sensor has been placed on the image, it can configured within the Image View window to display valuable sensor data and other information.

Additional information about the IoT Sensors Widget and some of the options available within it can be found at this link.

Placing Sensors on an Image

To place sensors on an image, start by selecting the image you want to place sensors on within the Image View window. A blue-highlighted name in the Image View widget window on the right indicates the selected Image.

1. Navigate to IoT Sensors- Click on the "IoT Sensors" widget in the toolbar on the upper right side of the screen.

2. Select Sensor to Add- All sensors added to the asset will be available in the selection list of the "IoT Sensors" widget on the right of the page. To select a sensor to drop onto the Image, click on the location icon to the right of the sensor you want to place.

3. Placing the Sensor- The sensor selected to be placed will have a blue square highlighting the "Place Sensor" icon. To place the sensor, simply move the crosshairs where you would like to drop the sensor and click to place it. Sensors can be searched or filtered using the toolbar at the top of the widget.

Once placed, the sensor will automatically populate with a sensor icon with the name displayed below the sensor icon and a default metric or metrics visible above the sensor icon. The next section will show you how to edit the display of the sensor information and metrics.

Configuring Sensors to Display Data

Once a sensor has been added, you can click on the sensor to edit to change the information and data displayed. This section will provide instructions about changing sensor information display.

1. Select the Sensor- To start editing the sensor data, click on the sensor icon.

Clicking on the sensor icon will open a pop-up window like the one below. From this window, you can edit sensor display options and change the displayed sensor metrics.

2. Changing Sensor Display Options- The kebab icon in the upper right of the window allows you to toggle several display options including the sensor name, sensor readings, and the status. The "Sensor name" toggle will turn off the sensor name displayed below the sensor icon. The "Readings" toggle will turn off the sensor readings displayed above the sensor icon. The "Status" toggle will turn off the status dot on the upper right side of the sensor icon (green dot in image below), providing information about the sensor data stream. The "Apply to all sensors" button can be used to save the Sensor Display settings to all sensors currently on the Image.

3. Changing Sensor Metrics- To add, remove, or configure sensor metrics displayed on Images, click the "Edit" button in the lower right of the window.

Adding Sensor Metrics- To add additional sensor reading metrics to the display, click the "Add" button in the bottom left corner of the window to open a new metric configuration window.

The configuration page includes dropdown selection options described from top to bottom: Metric type selection to filter metrics in the following dropdown, Metric selection to select the metric you want to display, Unit selection to select from several available Imperial and Metric unit options, and Max. Decimal Degree selection to set precision or significant figures of displayed data.

For some sensor types, there may be additional configuration options, called parameters, in this configuration window that allow you to override a sensor configuration to change the input variables for calculated metrics. This article helps explain these options: Sensor Configuration Parameters for Calculated Metrics.

Once finished with the configuration of the new metric, click "Save" to add this metric to the display.

Back within the original pop-out window, you can click "Save" to save those changes to the sensors on the image, or you can click the dropdown icon exposing an "Apply to all sensors" button that when clicked will apply the configuration to all of the sensors on the Image View that share the same metrics.

Editing or Remove Displayed Sensor Metrics- Clicking the pencil icon to the right of a metric allows you to change the metric, units, or calculation parameters via a pop-out window similar to the "Add Metric" window above. To remove a metric from the display, click the "X" icon to the right of the metric.

Back within the original pop-out window, you can click "Save" to save those changes to the sensors on the image, or you can click the dropdown icon exposing an "Apply to all sensors" button that when clicked will apply the configuration to all of the sensors on the Image View that share the same metrics.
