Sizing Criteria

Isolated footing:

Sizing Criteria - Calculate:

1. Size Option -  Calculate

Calculate size option allow program to increase the initial size of footing if it is not sufficient for Post Analysis checks. Post analysis (PA) checks include the Sliding, Overturning, Maximum base pressure and Loss of Contact checks. The program increases the footing size based on the various inputs from user till it satisfies all PA checks. If footing size doesn’t satisfy check even with the maximum allowable dimensions,  program would show failure of footing in sizing.

2. Allowable Dimensions:

Max Along +LY: Maximum dimensions available along local +ve Y axis of the footing.

Max Along -LY: Maximum dimensions available along local -ve Y axis of the footing.

Max Along +LZ: Maximum dimensions available along local +ve Z axis of the footing.

Max Along -LZ: Maximum dimensions available along local -ve Z axis of the footing.

Max Depth:

Maximum depth of the footing program can provide. If the footing design requires depth more than the provided by the user, program shows failure.

3. Increment:

The value by which footing size can increase along specified direction. The dimension increment option available along LY and LZ direction of the footing separately. Program accepts different increment values along LY and LZ direction of the footing. However, the same increment is applicable to +LY and -LY direction of the footing. if the increment is 25mm then at every iteration, footing size will be increased by 50mm. if dimension of the footing reaches the maximum dimension allowed along one direction, then footing size can increase along one direction only. If the footing size is increased along one direction, then increment of 25mm would be used to increase the footing dimensions.

4. Dimension Round offs

Plan and depth after finalization of all sizing checks would be rounded off by these values.

5. Convergence Graph

This graph provides information on how the footing size is increased for PA checks. The Graph is plotted for every iteration of size increased and factor of safety for each check is computed. This graph helps to identify the governing check for size of the footing.

Sizing Criteria - Specify

1. Size Option -  Specify

Program allows user to define plan dimensions (LY and LZ) and depth of footing. Programs perform all sizing and design checks for specified size of the footing. If all checks satisfy with the available dimensions, the footing would be considered as designed. If not, program show footing size fails for specified dimensions.

2. Allowable Dimensions:

Program allows to specify multiple set of dimensions of the footing to perform the design. If check/s are not satisfied with the first set of dimensions, the program performs the next iteration with next available set of dimensions. If all checks are satisfied with the any available set of dimensions, the footing design results would be available. If it is not satisfied with all dimensions sets then program show footing size fails for specified dimensions.

5. Convergence Graph

This is same as explained for the calculate size option. The difference here is that the convergence graph is show for the set of dimensions specified by the user.
