OpenBuildings™ Designer 2024 (v24.00.00.72)

The OpenBuildings product team is pleased to announce the availability of OpenBuildings Designer 2024 (v24.00.00.72) through the Bentley CONNECT Center, Software Downloads portal, or the desktop CONNECTION Client. This release includes support for seven (7) languages: Czech, Chinese (Simplified), English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. This release includes support for sixteen (16) regional datasets: Australia, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, ISO19650, Neutral Metric, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Swedish, United Kingdom, and United States (Imperial and Metric).This update does not include a Russian build and/or dataset.  See this article for more information.

This version incorporates several new productivity enhancements and user-requested fixes. It also includes updates from MicroStation 2024. Please refer to the "What's New Highlights" section below for some of the product updates and enhancements.

GenerativeComponents 2024 (v24.00.00.20) is available as a companion feature. This computational design platform can easily be included as part of any deployment of OpenBuildings Designer.

What's New Highlights for OpenBuildings Designer 2024 (v24.00.00.72)

General Updates:

Since brand is an integral part of the application identity, rebranding OpenBuildings Designer 2023 to OpenBuildings Designer 2024 results in several changes to the default installation directories, registry entries, executables and many other aspects of the application. References to '2023' were replaced with '2024' which refers to current year. The OpenBuildings 2024 rebranding does not impact or change the Building Information Modeling feature set available in the product and is both the next update release and successor to OpenBuildings Designer 2023. OpenBuildings Designer CE, OpenBuildings Designer 2023, OpenBuildings Designer 2024 can coexist on the same computer, please refer installer update, side-by-side (similar to previous major version) installation wiki.

 

 It includes inclusion of new Python manager, better Reports, improvements in Item Types and Geospatial Enhancements. Details on these updates are captured in MicroStation 2024

 

This release also includes the latest OpenBuildings Designer and MicroStation security improvements. The details will be found in our advisory page website located in our Trust Center here https://www.bentley.com/trust-center

 

Side-by-side Installation allows you to adopt OpenBuildings Designer 2024 without upgrading your current installation of OpenBuildings Designer CONNECT Edition or OpenBuildings Designer 2023 mid-project. For more information regarding configurations, please refer to refer the Side-by-side Installation  wiki and Documentation (similar to previous major version).

 

**If you already have a previous version of OpenBuildings Designer on your machine, OpenBuildings Designer 2024 will install as a separate application.** 

 

 

Usability and Productivity Enhancements:

 

Usability and the overall user experience in OpenBuildings is a key focus for our team. The following usability improvements were implemented:

 

 

The Electrical tools and features are removed from the product to enhance security and streamline functionality. You can still access and edit the DG (Data Group) properties for the Electrical components created in the previous OpenBuildings versions of DGN files.

 

 

In the electrical tab under the Building System Design workflow, a new Information button is added. Clicking on this button an info message is shown in the message center.

 

 

Install via CONNECTION Client:

If you have any earlier version of AECOsim Building Designer or OpenBuildings Designer CONNECT Edition already installed on your computer, you can download and install OpenBuildings  Designer 2024 from the CONNECTION Client, then OpenBuildings Designer 2024 will be advertised as an update from the CONNECTION Client. However, It will NOT replace any earlier versions of the product and install it as a separate instance of OpenBuildings with the root directories ..\Program Files\Bentley\OpenBuildings 2024 and ..\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenBuildings 2024. Sign into the CONNECTION Client to view and apply your Application updates. If needed, please refer to the CONNECTION Client help for more information on installing the update.

  1. Browse to and sign into Software Downloads at  https://softwaredownloads.bentley.com/ProductDetails/1934
  2. Select Download to download OpenBuildings Designer 2024 x64 version 24.00.00.72
