Problem Description
We would like to use the Revit model file to further work in MicroStation. What is the recommended workflow to import files in the RVT format into Bentley Systems' software? I have been using an iModel Plugin for Revit (Revit Plugin) earlier, but it seems to be unavailable now.
Steps to Resolve
First, you need to be aware that Revit is not part of the Bentley Systems product group. The cooperation between two different software products might not be ideal. For such workflows, where you have a file from the third-party product, and would like to insert it somehow into Bentley Systems’ product, such as MicroStation or OpenBuildings Designer, we recommend using the new iModel workflow.
One option that is also available is to use a “cross-program” format IFC. You convert the .RVT file to IFC format and then import it into our product using the option: Import – Exchange File Types – IFC.
The better option is to use iTwin.
1. Go to Bentley Infrastructure Cloud (Powered by iTwin) https://infrastructurecloud.bentley.com/
2. Upload the RVT file to the documents in the Infrastructure Cloud
3. Click “models” and create a new model
4. Point the new model to the RVT file already uploaded to the Infrastructure Cloud
5. Click “iModels” on the left > Create iModel > iModel > give it a name > Add files from > design files > select what you uploaded > point to the file that contains the geocoordination data (if applicable) > next > give connection name > done > sync now
Synchronization may take a while to process. Once it’s done, the iModel is ready.
I hope the instructions are clear. If you require more details, let me know.

One important thing to take into consideration is what version of Revit you use, and what version the file was created in. For versions where iModel is not compatible you should use ISM (Integrated Structural Modeling). That is the case for the old Revit files, e.g. from 2015.
