Problem:

How bolt cross section area is being calculated in the supports?

We have M24 bolt size with 3mm Corrosion allowance. How area is being calculated? and why it is different in different load cases?

Answer:

AutoPIPE Vessel considers bolt details from Customizable file ( for example boltISO).

Here you can see the calculations for M24 bolt size:

Non Corroded Condition: Effective diameter d3 = 20.319 mm
Cross sectional area = 324.3 mm2.

Corroded Condition: Effective diameter d3 = 14.319mm (after reducing the corrosion)
Cross sectional area = 161.1 mm2.

Calculated area is matching with the values given in the report.
Also you can see different bolt area in corroded and non corroded conditions.

Note : You can change the values by updating the customizable files as per your requirements.
