Knowledge Base for Exports

Here you will be able to find answers to why an Export failed and how to fix it.

Write Access not available

The user who initiated the IFC Export does not have permission to write a file to the location specified for the generated IFC model. To resolve this, please ensure that that user has write access to the location specified to place the IFC model.

Steps to assign Write permission :

  1. Open the Share portal.
  2. Select the required folder.
  3. Click on the context menus.
  4. Select Set folder access.
  5. Assign Read/Write or Read/Write/Delete permission.

Read iModel Permission not available

The user who initiated the export does not have read permission for the iModel being used as the source for the IFC Export. To resolve this, please assign the user the appropriate read permission.

Steps to assign Read permission :

  1. Open the project on either the Connect or Bentley Infrastructure Cloud portal.
  2. Click on Manage under Team Members section.
  3. Select the user.
  4. Click on Manage Roles.
  5. Assign the user any role with iModelHub View/Read or View/Read/Write or View/Read/Write/Manage or View/Read/Write/Manage/Delete permission.

iModel has more than 1.5 million elements

Export to IFC failed because the iModel has more than 1.5 million elements. If the entire iModel has more than 1.5 million elements, a saved view should be used to define content that contains less than 1.5 million elements. Please use the saved view with less than 1.5 million elements for the IFC Export.

Error in user defined schema mapping file

The export to IFC failed because there is an error in the provided user defined schema mapping file. Please ensure that the user defined schema mapping file matches the standard schema for mapping files.

For reference, the default mapping file for IFC Exports can be found here: Default Mapping File for IFC Exports

iModel Not Found

Export to IFC failed as the iModel was not found. The iModel being exported to IFC may no longer exist or is inaccessible by the user who started the export.

Possible Solutions:

  1. Check if the iModel exists and can be opened by the user that attempted the IFC Export.
  2. Check if the user who started the export has a minimum of read permission for the iModel. See Read iModel Permission not available for information around the read permission.

User Defined Mapping File Not Found

The Export to IFC was unable to find the user defined mapping JSON file. The user defined mapping JSON file may no longer exist or is inaccessible by the user who started the export.

Possible Solutions:
  1. Check if the user defined mapping JSON file exists.
  2. Check if the user who started the export has a minimum of read permission for that particular user defined mapping JSON file. Assign the required permission if needed.
  3. Check if the BLOB URL is well format and has not expired.
