Creating the Demonstration and Teaching Project

OpenPaths EMME is distributed with a demonstration project that can be used to explore many different software capabilities. This demonstration and teaching project is used to illustrate documentation examples and serves as the basis for training.

Opening EMME Desktop for the first time, you should notice the Projects dock on the left side of the window. You will see three options: Create a new project, Create a new demonstration and teaching project (Winnipeg) and Open an existing project. Click the second option.

 

The pop-up window lets you define general information about the project:

• the name of the project; for example, Winnipeg,
• the description of the project; for example, Demonstration project to explore training content,
• the project location on your drive.

 

The next window is a summary of the project you are creating. Click Create to complete the project creation.

OpenPaths EMME Help

OpenPaths EMME Help contains all the information you need to know to use OpenPaths EMME. In particular, it contains User Manuals for EMME Desktop, Modeller, AGENT, Flow, and Scenes. It can be opened from the Help menu: 

 

Getting Started

OpenPaths EMME Help also contains a Getting Started section available from the Desktop Manual > Getting Started. There you will find a description of the demonstration and teaching project that you can explore for yourself.

Demonstration and Teaching Toolbox

Open Modeller . Click the Modeller icon on the Desktop toolbar to open Modeller. The Demonstration and Teaching Toolbox (Winnipeg) provides tools that are meant to give you a self-guided interactive tour of various aspects of Modeller functionality.

This toolbox is available only with the demonstration and teaching project. It contains Workshop (exercises) and Models (sample tools) to get valuable self-guided training.

EMME Flow and examples

Open Flow . Click the Flow icon from the Desktop toolbar to open Flow. Here you will find several examples of code-free automation of EMME procedures.

EMME AGENT and examples

The Demonstration Project comes with several examples of Demand models implements in AGENT, from the simple four-steps to more advanced disaggregate activity based model, and examples of Synthetic Populations.

Open AGENT . Click the AGENT icon from the Desktop toolbar to open AGENT.

EMME Python APIs

EMME API guides and references are available directly from the Help menu.

Open EMME Notebook . Click the Notebook icon on the Desktop toolbar to open it. There you will find training Notebooks and learn more about APIs through scripted examples.

 

You can also download and explore the EMME Scripting Class solutions (note: you must be a member of the EMME community to access the files) to learn more about the Modeller API, the Network API, the Matrix API, the Desktop API, running OpenPaths EMME workflows as a standalone Python script, building custom Modeller tools and modules.
