ProjectWise Explorer Version: 2023.6.3.12
Civil 3D Tool: Associate Project to Multiple Drawings... = <None>
Use Case: .dwg files take longer to open when they have explicit association to a Data Shortcut Project (.CivilDSProj). Only Source Drawings (those .dwg files from which Data Shortcut objects originate) need to be explicitly associated to the DSP. Therefore, the majority of project drawings do not need to be explicitly associated, and they will open faster if they are not.
In earlier versions of the ProjectWise-Civil 3D integration, this functionality would only work when targeting a .CivilDSProj object in the datasource.
When using it to set all drawings to <None>, the process would initially run as expected with ProjectWise integration, however, the files would be FREED instead of being CHECKED IN after the process was complete.
It is now possible for ProjectWise Explorer users to use this batch processing tool to REMOVE a .dwg file's explicit association to a Data Shortcut Project (.CivilDSProj) by selecting <None> and then browsing to a target folder in ProjectWise.
Associate Project to Multiple Drawings... is a native Civil 3D tool that will process all of the .dwg files in one folder. It has no option to run on subfolders. It will run locally on the PC of the user who initiates the process. Qualifying ProjectWise documents that it targets will be Checked Out to the initiating user, processed locally, and then Checked In. Documents that are in a read only state (including Final Status) will not be updated because they cannot be checked out.
Tips:
1) Purge all of the files in the folder(s) to be processed from your local working directory prior to running the process.
2) If the target folder contains documents that should not be processed, set them to a read only state, to avoid processing.
Note: if those documents are discoverable in the local working directory, they will be processed, but their server copies will not be updated.
This will increase the time that the entire process takes to complete
3) Copy out all of the documents being targeted prior to running the process.
4) Suppress the Audit Trail Comments for the initiating user. Failure to do so will result in a need to press OK/Cancel as every file is being checked in.
