How to

Scale an image (raster)

Background

Fixed Aspect Ratio (Proportional)

(e.g. Scaling x-direction will also scale y-direction proportionally to maintain the aspect ratio)

Unfixed Aspect Ratio (Disproportionate)

(e.g. Scale in x-direction without scaling in y-direction)

Steps to Accomplish

Option 1: Edit Handles

  1. Select the image
  2. Select an edit handle
  3. By default, the image will scale with a fixed aspect ratio
  4. Optional: Press [Alt] to unfix the aspect ratio
  5. Click new position of edit handle to resize

Note: This method will work if the image's aspect ratio is set to fixed in the Geometry section of the Element Information dialog. This method does not change the "Aspect Ratio Fixed" property for the image.

Option 2: Element Information Dialog

  1. Select the image
  2. Open the Element Information dialog
  3. Expand the Geometry section
  4. Specify if you want the "Aspect Ratio Fixed"
  5. Enter the scale factor for the axis you want to scale the image about

Option 3a: Raster Manager – Active Scale Method

Note: Images pasted into the model may not appear in the Raster Manager

  1. Open Raster Manager (File > Raster Manager)
  2. Select the raster to resize
  3. Select the Scale icon
  4. In the tool settings dialog, select Active Scale
  5. For fixed aspect ratio toggle the lock icon to appear locked (For unfixed aspect ratio toggle the lock icon to appear unlocked)
  6. Specify the scale by entering a factor in the Scale input box
  7. Enter a data point at the same location, whatever the scale
  8. All views update to reflect your scale adjustments

Option 3b: Raster Manager – 3 Points Scale Method

Note: Images pasted into the model may not appear in the Raster Manager

  1. Open Raster Manager (File > Raster Manager)
  2. Select the raster to resize
  3. Select the Scale icon
  4. In the tool settings dialog, select 3 Points Scale
  5. For fixed aspect ratio check Proportional (For unfixed aspect ratio uncheck Proportional)
  6. Enter a point to scale the raster about
  7. Enter a reference point
  8. Enter a point to define the amount of scaling

Option 4: Scale Tool

  1. Open the Scale tool (Tools > Manipulate > Scale)
  2. Steps and tool settings are similar to Options 3a & 3b

Option 5: Key-in
