How to change the appearance of MicroStation Standard Line Styles (1-7) when printed.

Background

When generating printed output from MicroStation, the DGN default Line Styles (1-7) dash and gap’s are generated from a pattern of On (pen down) and Off (pen up) movements, defined in the selected Plot Configuration File (*pltcfg).

For Example,

Is made up from 2.8 on 1.05 off 0.7 on 1.05 off pattern, before being repeated depending on the length of line. The default units being mm for each on/off portion of the pattern by default.

Steps to Accomplish

To adjust these on/off values that make up a Line Styles printed pattern, the Plot Driver Configuration File being used needs to be modified. To do this:

  1. Identify the *.pltcfg file being used, (This is displayed at the top of the Print dialog)
  2. Select File > Edit Print Driver Configuration to open the file for edit.
  3. Optional:         If at the top of the dialog it states (Read Only) or you do not want to modify the existing *.pltcfg it will need to be saved under a new name

Select File > Save As, a dialog will appear offering you to change the label (Up to you)

Enter a new File Name as required (Modified.pltcfg)

  1. Select the ‘Line Styles’ tab
  2. Select the Style Number (MicroStation Line Style 1-7) to be edited, followed by clicking the ‘Edit’ button
