03. C-Node or Connecting Nodes in Caesar

In the following example, these are connecting nodes (not physical nodes):CNODES allow you to associate certain degrees of freedom between two nodes, with an optional stiffness value. (You can think of your arm/shoulder as a CNODE connection where the 3 translational DOFs are associated but not the 3 rotational DOFs.).

AutoPIPE doesn’t need CNodes as it deals with Support and Anchors differently to Caesar.  All the functions of CNodes is possible in AutoPIPE.  Supports can have gaps and Supports and Anchors can be connected to either the ground or to another node point.  The tie link is used for tying the ends of the flexible, but only has restraint in one direction.  If gaps are required in other directions then one or more supports can be combined to give this effect.

Report loads at a vessel or equipment nozzle: Equivalent in AutoPIPE to a Reference Point. This is a better solution allowing either loads and allowable limits (e.g. from manufacturer) to be reported in a global or local direction. Local is very useful for skewed piping. A reference point can be assigned to any point in the model.

1. Select Insert > Xtra data > Reference point...

Connect a support from one node to another:

1. Select a node point point where an support or anchor has already been inserted.

2. Select Modify > Support or Anchor ... The support / anchor dialog opens.

3. Type the connection node in the "Connected to:" field.
