How to add new material to material database, writing added material to database and loading database in AutoPIPE Vessel v42 and higher?
1. Select Execute > Manage Material Database to display the Material Database Manager.
2. From the Material Database Manager, select Edit > Add
A blank line appears in the grid.
Alternatively you can find similar material in the list and right-click and select Add a copy.
Using this method, you can create a copy of any existing material to use as a base for
the new material.
Update all properties of the material and proceed directly to step 12.
If you need to add material from scratch, follow the steps outlined below.
3. Double-click on the blank line in the grid to display the Material Editor.
4. At a minimum, input a Symbolic Name, and select a Product, Class, and Norm.
NOTE: If the Norm you are looking for is not in the list (e.g., special materials of a particular
manufacturer), you can type the value in the Norm field.
5. Input the General Properties of the material using the Add Property drop-down picklist.
Example of Adding Chemical Composition:
6. When adding a Modulus of Elasticity or a Thermal Expansion from a Norm, remember to assign a group.
If the material does not belong to a Norm, choose a property that contains the tag "Undefined" so you
can create a User Defined property.
NOTES:
- A Modulus of Elasticity and Thermal Expansion are mandatory for a strength calculation.
- A Vacuum chart is necessary for external pressure calculations depending on the Pressure
Design Code.
- Specific Gravity is mandatory (loads and weight).
- Chemical Composition is needed for Fatigue Analysis.
- Poisson's factor is optional and exists with a default value of 0.3.
7. Once the General Properties are defined, click on Mechanical Properties in the tree (on the left side of
the Material Editor).
8. Press Add Revision or right-click on the Mechanical Properties to display the context menu and select
Add.
9. Click on the new blank Revision in the tree.
10. Input a Year and Month, then select the proper Unit System.
11. Select the appropriate value from the Add Property drop-down picklist.
NOTE: Yield Strength is mandatory.
12. Once finished, press OK to close the Material Editor.
13. From the Material Database Manager, select File > Save.
The new material now appears in the list.
