New in PLAXIS Monopile Designer 2024.3
Release: May 2025
PLAXIS Monopile Designer 2024.3 (24.3.0.95) contains the following improvements and updates compared to PLAXIS Monopile Designer 2024.2:
Compatibility notes: Due to the major changes in the material database and the unit system, PLAXIS 2024.3 will be installed alongside Version 21, instead of overwriting it. When running the calibration, GeoDS-projects created with PLAXIS CONNECT Edition 3D Version 21 will automatically be saved by PLAXIS Monopile Designer as a converted copy with the _converted suffix.
The PLAXIS CONNECT Edition V21 projects will remain unchanged.
New features
Modal analysis of monopiles (General Availability)
Calculate natural vibration frequencies and vibration modes for the monopile-tower-nacelle system. The rotor-nacelle assembly is modelled as a lumped mass. Soil-structure interaction can be considered through the initial stiffness of the soil reaction curves or ignored by specifying a ‘clamped’ condition.
Design space visualisation
To assist Calibration it is now possible to visualise the specified geometry data sets in a normalised L/D-h/D space.
Additional parameters for sands
Cohesion (c’) and the exponent of the stiffness depth-dependency relation (m) can now be specified for sand profiles. The previous default values c’ = 0.1 kPa and m = 0.5 will be automatically applied to existing projects.
Other changes and improvements
- Added support for tapered monopile sections in 3D design verification models.
- Calibration model charts are now grouped by Soil Profile, enabling visibility toggling for the whole group.
Fixed issues
A large number of issues have been addressed, including:
- [1473334] Implicit fixed values for sand materials for c' and (power) m could lead to inconsistent derived values. These parameters are now made explicit.
- [1533385] In some rare cases, starting PLAXIS Monopile Designer would get stuck in the license checking mechanism and finally crashed. This is now resolved.
