New in PLAXIS 2D 2024.3
Release: May 2025
PLAXIS 2D 2024.3 (24.3.0.95) contains the following improvements and updates compared to PLAXIS 2D 2024.2:
Compatibility notes: Due to the major changes in the material database and the unit system, PLAXIS 2D 2024.3 will be installed alongside Version 21, instead of overwriting it. When opening PLAXIS 2D V21 projects with PLAXIS 2D 2024.3, projects will automatically be saved as a converted copy with the
_converted suffix and will require recalculation. When using non-SI-units, the mesh also needs to be regenerated.
The PLAXIS 2D CONNECT Edition V21 projects will remain unchanged.
Earlier versions of PLAXIS
will not be able to open files saved in PLAXIS 2D 2024.3.
New features
Improved version handling and file updater
The new conversion facility is included for projects that were created in earlier versions. This provides users a more robust experience than before when opening old projects in new versions of PLAXIS, reducing the risk of data loss and properly converting modified properties. Additionally, this new tool can also help users determining in which PLAXIS version the project was originally created or calculated. The new conversion facility supports the conversion of projects from PLAXIS 2D 2017 and later.
Other changes and improvements
- Discontinuity elements now block groundwater flow when the material set’s drainage type is set to non-porous.
- The remote scripting server is now only started on the localhost for enhanced protection. Python scripts can still be executed on the local machines this way.
- Strength Factor is now available for the CreepRock N2PC-MCT model as a state parameter in Output (Advanced and Ultimate tier only).
Fixed issues
A large number of issues have been addressed, including:
- [531059] Fixed an issue for displaying the Force Envelopes minimum and maximum values in the plot title below the visualization
- [547943] Fixed an issue when generating interfaces in the Tunnel Designer that would appear on the opposite site in the generated model
- [598464] When selecting Soils in mesh mode, the multi-select option would inadvertly select WaterLevels as well, preventing to change local coarseness factors. This is now resolved.
- [848880] Very large PLAXIS project files containing many (geometric) objects and many phases could bump into a 2 GB file limit, preventing saving of the data. This restriction has now been removed.
- [1062992] Improved pre-calculation checks to prevent groundwater flow calculations with incorrectly defined material datasets.
- [1066733] In some cases, some calculation result data files were not properly closed, leading to a save error with data.convd.r* files. The save mechanism has been improved to safely deal with this scenario
- [1286091] Fixed an issue in the free-field elements for a Dynamics with consolidation calculation when the prior phase was also a Dynamics with consolidation phase.
- [1331102] In rare cases when cancelling a PLAXIS Dynamics phase, the curve data file was not properly released, leading to a File not found error-bugreport. This is now resolved.
- [1334538] Made improvements in the passing of starting command line arguments for the PLAXIS applications, allowing for better automated workflows.
- [1358745] Fixed an issue in the Tunnel Designer when generating a thick lining for segments that have a large start angle.
- [1387302] Improvements on the explanation of the Fixed-end Anchor in the object reference.
- [1392287] Fixed a memory leak in the PLAXIS Report Generator, leading to a more stable report generation process.
- [1395778] When using the generate tunnel button without an active Geotechnical Select Entitlement (GSE) license, users could get into an invalid PLAXIS project state. This is now resolved by blocking the tunnel generation when GSE is not enabled.
- [1402554] When starting the PLAXIS application with command line arguments to set the API server port and password, these were not always properly used when starting a script from inside PLAXIS (Expert menu). This is now resolved.
- [1404917] [N2PC model] Introduced a new State Parameter result: the Strength Factor
- [1416750] Improved connection with Seequent Central by providing feedback in case of unauthorized access on the Seequent Central server.
- [1424499] Improved behaviour in case one tries to apply a drift correction on an accelerogram with uneven timesteps. This is not allowed anymore.
- [1429134] The relative shear stress for discontinuity table header incorrectly showed a stress unit. The header text now reflects the stress ratio and is in line with the results
- [1440905] In some environments, chaning the displayed results in the cross-section curves could lead to a crash. This is now resolved.
- [1442346] The feedback when using the checkgeometry command has been improved to assist with identifying potential inaccuracies in the geometry.
- [1447476] In some cases when changing the scaling of one the the axis in the Output curves setting, a bugreport could be triggered. This is now resolved.
- [1450013] Fixed an issue in the Tunnel Designer for cases in which a negative arc radius for flipping the arc was used.
- [1452486] Fixed a unit conversion when feet was used as length unit for the table display of local coordinates in the cross-section table results.
- [1481638] Resolved an incorrectly displayed text in the Output status bar below the Model Explorer when the filter text was stil empty.
- [1491545] Fixed a calculation issue when using plate elements with a self-weight without interfaces in a dynamics with consolidation phase.
- [1504422] When exporting a phase with mutliple defined line loads to a GeoStudio model, the converter would terminate. This is now resolved.
- [1511449] It was possible to set the start from phase to None in version 24.02, leading to an inconsistent phase list. This is now prevented.
- [1516677] When importing a GeoStudio model into PLAXIS 2D, some informative warnings about the water level and staged construction settings were incorrectly displayed as errors. This is now resolved.
- [1519096] The commands runner in Version 24.02 could slow down when applying changes to Phase settings in the Staged Construction mode. This is now resolved.
- [1528594] In some cases the PLAXIS Sensitivity Analysis & Parameter variation tool was returning no results (zero value) for the SensiScore. This is now resolved.
- [1530914] Fixed an issue with length units in the Tunnel Designer when filling in values for the orientation axes.
- [1570518] Fixed an issue in handling copying a material database to a shared global material database.
- [1599339] The Reached forces Fx, Fy, Fz when using static prescribed displacements, was incorrectly displayed in the Calcultion information table inside PLAXIS Output program, multiplied by a factor 1000. In the curves and in the Input Phase Reached values, the values are correct. This is now fixed and the correct values is shown.
- [1603161] When splitting the earthquake signal over mutliple phases in a PLAXIS 2D dynamics with consolidation analysis using free field elements, the results were inconsistent at this "split-moment". This is now corrected and continuous and split earthquake phases now give consistent results.
- [1607506] Loading SoilTest test configurations created with older PLAXIS versions (Version 21 or earlier) would lead to a crash. This is now resolved.
