New in PLAXIS 2D 2025.1.1
Release: November 2025
PLAXIS 2D 2025.1.1 (25.1.1.9) contains the following improvements and updates compared to PLAXIS 2D 2024.3:
New features
New calculation input and results database
The application’s calculation input and calculated results as well as its storage have been redesigned, resulting in many improvements and better consistency of the PLAXIS data. Changes span across calculation input, results calculation, results derivation, curve performance and results availability. Notable changes include:
- Improved extrapolation of results from stress points to the nodes, especially for 15-noded triangular elements.
- Some coupled, flow and thermal calculation results that are natively computed on the nodes are not extrapolated from the stress points anymore.
- Result types that do not exist for certain calculation types or pore pressure calculation combinations etc., are now shown as Not Available instead of zero.
- Improved reliability and inspectability of UDSM results including their state parameters when working with multiple UDSM’s.
- Some calculation pre-processing done by the kernel regarding connectivity of loads or anchors for phases with different active states of connected soils or structures is moved to the calculation preview and can now be inspected before calculation.
- Drastically increased performance of pre- and post-calc curve generation.
- Curve points now include all result types available for specific nodes or stress points, like for example native model and UDSM state parameters.
Compatibility note: Due to this major change, when opening older projects, they will be converted and saved with a
_converted suffix in the 2025.1 format and require remeshing and recalculation. To ease the transition to the new release and not block ongoing projects, side-by-side installation with the previous releases of PLAXIS is supported.
Be aware that earlier versions of PLAXIS
will not be able to open files saved in PLAXIS 2D 2025.1.
Other changes and improvements
- Safety analysis now correctly disables the reduction of the strength of discontinuities when the property Apply strength reduction is marked inactive.
- The safety information table now shows the discontinuities to which strength reduction was applied in a safety analysis.
- Performance of the checkgeometry command has been improved returning adjacent geometry pairs faster.
- SOLVED known Issue: Dynamic boundary condition options in PLAXIS projects now show only the allowed options instead of all. PLAXIS 2024.3 projects affected by this issue can be opened with PLAXIS 2025.1 to fix it.
- Fixed issue where in some cases importing CAD files failed due to a license error with the DXF importer.
- Upgraded Python environment to Python 3.12.11 to keep up with the latest security improvements.
- Import PLAXIS LE (Technology preview) feature removed from the PLAXIS 2D software.
Fixed issues
A large number of issues have been addressed, including:
- [379502] The prestress symbol (p) is now correctly displayed for Fixed-end anchors on the canvas.
- [1295211] The Phase object in Output now reports correct information for a Safety calculation.
- [1320663] It is now possible to toggle the visibility of the connection objects in Structures mode via the explorers.
- [1459725] Fixed an internal data-structure error that prevented projects from loading in Output.
- [1482212] Fixed an issue that caused incorrect display of excess pore pressure (pexcess) in Output.
- [1536044] Fixed an issue that occurred when switching phases while viewing structural results in an Output table.
- [1543600] Improved the behaviour of the chart displayer in the Calculation progress window.
- [1548159] The 'Consider gap closure' option is no longer considered for inactive interface elements.
- [1554172] Opening PLAXIS projects via ProjectWise Explorer is now faster, and projects open in an editable state.
- [1567333] The Preconsolidation tabsheet in 'Modify soil layers' now displays values that match the assigned material properties.
- [1593011] Resolved an issue where the Hint box in Output could freeze when viewing results for elements using the Hoek-Brown material.
- [1634719] Improved analyses using the 'Dynamics with consolidation' calculation type when motion signal is applied over multiple phases.
- [1640689] Fixed an issue where the Groundwater tab's side-panel graphs in a material data set displayed incorrect values.
- [1647467] Updated the 'Soil' tabsheet in the Groundwater section of the material data set window for better clarity.
- [1652434] Fixed another issue where the Groundwater tab's side-panel graphs in a material data set displayed incorrect values.
- [1655069] Fixed report generation in Output for created groups that include plate materials.
- [1685183] Improved feedback when loading projects from older versions to avoid irrelevant messages about UDSM properties.
- [1693872] Axisymmetric models now correctly use the value of Np,2,comp for elastoplastic plate materials.
- [1694850] Input now displays the correct Dynamics model conditions, and a conversion rule prevents invalid analysis configurations.
- [1697099] Improved the legend scale for structure results in Output to ensure consistent display across all project units.
- [1702472] Fixed an issue where the Groundwater tab's side-panel graphs in a material data set appeared empty.
- [1705213] The visibility toggle ('eye' icon) in the explorer now behaves more consistently in Output.
- [1705721] The 'Reset time' option in the Deformation control parameters no longer requires the Geotechnical SELECT Entitlements (GSE) to be activated.
- [1718098] Running an analysis with Design approaches now shows the correct value of shear stress (tau max) in Output.
- [1730850] Fixed an issue in Output that occurred when using the 'Stores a view for reports' option.
