OpenFlows Consolidation Summary

Bentley Systems to Launch New Water Infrastructure Engineering Software Solutions at AWWA ACE24, June 10-12

New OpenFlows Software Enables Swift Planning and Design, Superior Analysis and Insights, and Better Operational Decisions

ANAHEIM, California, June 10, 2024 — Bentley Systems Inc., a global leader in infrastructure engineering software solutions, is announcing its participation in the American Water Works Association's 2024 Annual Conference & Expo (ACE24). The event is set to take place June 10-12 in Anaheim, California, where Bentley will showcase its leading water infrastructure software solutions.

This year, Bentley is introducing the new OpenFlows hydraulic modeling and analysis product portfolio, a comprehensive suite of software solutions tailored to meet the critical business needs of water infrastructure engineering teams. The new portfolio includes OpenFlows Water, OpenFlows Sewer, OpenFlows Storm, OpenFlows Hydraulic Toolset, and OpenFlows WorkSuite, each equipped with enhanced capabilities and simplified software licensing options.

OpenFlows Water helps engineers plan, design and optimize water distribution systems. It offers reliable, versatile, and easy-to-deploy hydraulic analysis solutions, now including AI-enabled optimization capabilities to help engineers understand the behavior of their water distribution systems, make better decisions, mitigate the risk of catastrophic events, and meet regulatory requirements and growing population needs. The software also provides engineers with the capabilities to effectively manage and mitigate the risks associated with water hammer events and transient pressure surges.

OpenFlows Sewer is advanced hydraulic analysis software that enables engineers to efficiently design and analyze new sewers, as well as expand existing sewer and stormwater systems to meet future population growth, renew aging or problematic wastewater infrastructure, or perform comprehensive analysis of all aspects of sewer systems to ensure regulatory compliance.

OpenFlows Storm enables engineers to analyze complex stormwater systems, improve pond design, and make workflows more efficient. Engineers can now detect system bottlenecks, improve capacity, and limit stormwater flooding to comply with regulations. They can also minimize capital investments with optimized network designs and master plans for the entire system.

Hydraulic Toolset, a powerful and easy-to-use hydraulic calculator software that helps engineers solve design challenges for individual hydraulic components (as opposed to the entire network model, which is better analyzed in OpenFlows Water, OpenFlows Sewer, or OpenFlows Storm). Quickly calculate and analyze a variety of hydraulic elements with this powerful companion application.

OpenFlows WorkSuite enables engineers to plan, design, and analyze diverse water, wastewater, and stormwater projects. The Virtuoso software bundles Bentley's two advanced hydraulics and hydrology solutions―OpenFlows Water and OpenFlows Sewer―at a competitive rate. OpenFlows WorkSuite is offered in three system sizes: 1,000 pipes, 5,000 pipes, and unlimited pipes.

Conference Highlights

Speaking at the conference on behalf of Bentley are:

Dr. Tom Walski - Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Evaluating Valve Criticality for Risk and Resilience – Part of the Educational Session on Emergency Preparedness Modeling for Distribution Systems

Inadequate distribution system isolation valves, due to disrepair or poor placement, exacerbate negative impacts of pipe breaks. This presentation will illustrate models used to evaluate the criticality of valves for emergency preparedness.

Stephen Jackson - Thursday, June 13, 2024, 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Digital Twin Pilot for Water Loss and Pump Efficiency – Part of Finding Efficiencies with Digital Twins

A digital twin pilot was conducted for a medium-sized system in Kankakee, Illinois. The Kankakee system serves a population just under 100,000 with an average production of 13 million gallons per day. The goals of the pilot were: 1. Quantify water loss in each zone through hourly net flow patterns, minimum night flow trends, and monthly water audits. 2. Establish automated alerts on flow anomalies to improve leak detection and repair time. 3. Improve energy efficiency by quantifying power usage, identifying inefficient or worn pumps, and evaluating pumping strategies. 4. Better understand system operations through near-real-time modeling. 5. Evaluate the benefit of adopting a digital twin in other water systems.

Join Bentley Systems at AWWA ACE 2024 at Booth 2027 in the Exhibit Hall, Anaheim Convention Center, on June 11 – 13. Daily presentations on the new OpenFlows software solutions will be held between 10 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
