1. Description

Saved Views in Bentley Infrastructure Cloud allow you to capture and store specific camera positions, model visibility settings, and display configurations within an iModel. Once saved, these views can be re-applied at any time to instantly restore a precise perspective — making them essential for design reviews, issue reporting, and collaborative workflows.

The Saved Views widget lives in the right-hand vertical panel of the iModel Viewer. It replaces the legacy bottom-bar control and introduces a significantly expanded feature set, including tag-based filtering with AND/OR logic, hierarchical grouping, new apply modes, and improved keyboard accessibility.

Who Can Use Saved Views?

Any project member with access to the iModel Viewer can create, view, and apply saved views. Sharing and administrative actions (such as renaming or deleting tags) require specific role permissions:

4. Organising Saved Views with Tags

✨  New Feature

New feature: Hierarchical grouping and keyboard tag entry are both new additions to the Saved Views widget.

What Are Tags?

Tags are short labels you attach to a saved view to categorise it. They serve two purposes:

Adding and Editing Tags

To add a tag to a saved view, open the Options (⋯) menu on the tile and select Add / Edit Tags.

Keyboard Support for Tag Entry

When the tag input field is active:

The tag appears in the list instantly after Enter is pressed. No separate confirmation button click is required.

Grouping Saved Views by Tags

Enable the Group Saved Views by Tags toggle in the Settings panel to switch from a flat list to a hierarchical folder-like view.

How Groups Work

Search and Filter with Grouping Active

AND / OR Logic with Tag Filters

When Group by Tags is active and multiple tags are selected as filters:

This combination lets you precisely narrow a large library of views without losing the folder structure.

Admin Controls — iTwin Owner Role

Users with the iTwin Owner role can manage tags from within the widget:

Both actions take effect without a page refresh.

5. Saved Views Widget — FAQs

Q: How do I open the new Saved Views widget?

A: Click the Saved Views tab icon in the right-hand vertical panel of the iModel Viewer. The widget opens on the Saved Views tab by default.

Q: My saved views have disappeared — what happened?

A: Saved views are stored against the iModel, not your local session. If you cannot see them, check that:

A: Use the Reload Saved Views button in the Settings panel to refresh the list.

Q: What is the difference between Include New Content and Apply Snapshot?

A: Include New Content (default) displays the saved view's camera and display settings but also shows any new content added to the iModel after the view was saved. Apply Snapshot restores the view exactly as it was at the point of saving — new content added afterwards is excluded.

Q: Can I apply a saved view without moving my camera?

A: Yes. In the Settings panel, select either Include New Content (No Camera) or Snapshot (No Camera). Both modes apply the content and display rules from the saved view but leave your current camera position unchanged.

Q: How does AND / OR tag filtering work?

A: When you select two or more tags in the Filter by Tags control, a toggle appears:

A: The AND/OR choice persists across sessions as your personal preference.

Q: How do I group my saved views into folders?

A: Open the Settings panel (⚙) and turn on the Group Saved Views by Tags toggle. Views are then arranged into collapsible groups, one group per tag. Views with no tags appear under an Uncategorised group.

Q: A view appears in multiple groups — is that correct?

A: Yes. If a saved view has more than one tag, it appears inside every group that corresponds to one of those tags. This is by design and lets a single view surface in multiple relevant contexts.

Q: Can I rename or delete a tag?

A: Only users with the iTwin Owner (Admin) role can rename or delete tags. Tags can only be deleted when no saved views are currently linked to them. Both actions take effect immediately without a page refresh.

Q: How do I use the keyboard to add a tag?

A: Open the Options (⋯) menu on a saved view tile and select Add / Edit Tags. Type the new tag name in the input field and press Enter to save it instantly. Press Escape to cancel without saving.

Q: What is the difference between Saved Views and Imported Views?

A: Saved Views are created directly inside the iModel Viewer and stored against the iModel. Imported Views are views that have been imported from external sources (such as from another application). Hierarchical grouping by tags is available on the Saved Views tab only.

Q: How do I set a default view for an iModel?

A: Open the Options (⋯) menu on the saved view you want to use as the default and select Set as Default. The default view is applied automatically when a user opens the iModel.

Q: What happened to the old Saved Views control in the bottom bar?

A: The legacy Saved Views widget in the viewer bottom bar is being retired. A warning banner inside the old widget directs you to the new right-hand panel widget. The banner can be dismissed per session but reappears each time until the old control is fully removed. All existing saved views are preserved and fully accessible in the new widget.

Q: I selected AND filter but no views are showing — why?

A: If no saved views possess all of the selected tags simultaneously, the list will be empty and a 'No results found' message appears. Try removing one or more tags or switch to OR mode to broaden the results.
