Superelevation Analysis

Overview

This tool provides a means to independently analyze roadway corridors for superelevation cross slopes, stations, and transitions.

Finding the command

In the Civil Frontstage, open the left widget panel and select the Civil Design Validation and Analysis tab.

After selecting the Civil Validation and Analysis widget, click the drop-down menu to access the Superelevation Analysis tool.

Perform a Superelevation Analysis

Superelevation Analysis functions on the 3D model and is independent of the design application.

To begin, click the Add superelevation analysis button. Then, follow the prompts in the lower left of the screen

  1. Identify the Alignment of the corridor you wish to analyze. You may select the alignment from the drop-down menu or by graphically selecting it within the model.
  2. Identify top surfaces that you wish to analyze by selecting them within the model. Multiple pavement sections can be selected. After all of the sections have been highlighted, left-click out in space to accept the selections.
  3. Identify more road shoulders or miss to accept the highlighted sections as shoulders. Additional shoulders can included by graphically picking them in the model.

Reviewing the Analysis

The results of the analysis are presented on the screen and within the widget.

The results can be navigated within the model or from the widget panel on the left. Selecting a Transition within the panel will open an additional window with more detail.

By selecting a station from the panel, you can zoom to that location in the model for a visual review.

If needed a cross section can be opened directly from the superelevation station within the model. Select the superelvation “annotation” and move your cursor toward the alignment. A button will appear to open the cross section at that station.

After clicking the Open XSection button a second view will open displaying the cross section with superelevation slopes and rollover labels.
