Geometry Validation

Overview

This tool provides a means to independently validate horizontal and vertical geometry en masse against a pre-defined standard.

Finding the command

In the Civil Frontstage, open the left widget panel and select the Civil Design Validation and Analysis tab.

After selecting the Civil Validation and Analysis widget, click the drop-down menu to access the Geometry Validation tool.

Select a Standard

Standards can be selected or created from the drop-down menu located on the lower left of the menu. To select a standard, select it from the list.

Create a New Standard

Customized standards can be created by selecting “Add new standard.” A template of the standards files can be downloaded, modified, and uploaded to create a new, named standard.

Select Add new standard from the standard selection drop-down menu. Using the dialog box, you can download example standards files for modification.

Once the files are modified, they can be uploaded to a new standard. Type in the name for the new standard. Click the upload button for the design speed file or drag/drop the file onto the button. Do the same for the superelevation file

Set up and run a Validation

To begin a geometry validation, click the Create a new geometry validation button.

The dialog box titled Alignment Setup opens.

The horizontal alignments present within the project model are listed in the right panel. After selecting an alignment, the left panel will activate and allow you to set the maximum superelevation and design speed for the selected alignment. After, selecting the maximum superelevation rate and design speed, click the Apply button at the bottom of the left panel.

Multiple alignments can be selected and set up at one time. Select the desired alignments, select the appropriate superelevation, and design speed. Click Apply to assign to the selected alignments en masse.

After setting up the maximum superelevation rate and the design speed for the geometry, click Save & Review to proceed.

The review dialog box opens. Click the Edit button the make changes or click the Run button the perform the validation.

The results of the validation are presented in the widget. You can navigate the results for each alignment by expanding/collapsing the headings.

When the evaluated parameter is selected, the detailed results are presented in an additional open panel. You may need to re-size the panel after it opens.

By selecting the element in the right panel, the model view will zoom to that element. An issue can be created directly from the results panel for a failing element by clicking the Create Issue         button.

Validation runs are stored with the model and are available to others that open the model.

Validation runs can be deleted be deleted by selecting the 3 dots located to the right of the run.
