Access Clash Detection

Clash Detection can now be found in the iModel Viewer, on the Frontstages menu.

Once selected, the Clash dialog box will appear at the bottom of the screen. It can be resized, undocked and dock back again.


 

Leave Clash Detection

To leave Clash Detection, just select Main View from the Frontstages menu.

This will close the Clash dialog box.

  

Create a Clash Test

To create a Clash Test, click on the Create button

A dialog box with several required fields and options will be presented

  1. Name: Name for the Clash Test (required field)
  2. Description: Description for the Clash Test (required field)
  3. Models/Categories: Models or Categories that need to be included in Set A and/or Set B
  4. Set A: Set of elements to test against Set B for clashes
  5. Set B: Set of elements to test against Set A for clashes
  6. Options: Clash Settings that can be turned on or off
  7. Suppression Rules: Create and Associate custom Suppression Rules

  

Add Models and/or Categories

Set A

Select Models or Categories to be added to Set A. Models and Categories can be filtered. Once selected, all elements included in the models or categories will be highlighted and the rest will be greyed out to easily identify the selected elements. Click on Set A button, to add the models or categories to the set.

Once added to Set A, the elements will be displayed in red

Self Check: Checks elements in this set against each other for clashes

Clearance (mm): Any element within this distance will be reported as a clash

  

Set B

Select Models or Categories to be added to Set B. Models and Categories can be filtered. Once selected, all elements included in the models or categories will be highlighted and the rest will be greyed out to easily identify the selected elements. Click on Set B button, to add the models or categories to the set.

Once added to Set B, the elements will be displayed in blue

Self Check: Checks elements in this set against each other for clashes

Clearance (mm): Any element within this distance will be reported as a clash

  

Options

Clash Settings can be turned on or off for each Clash test

Include Reference Models: If turned on, it will include reference models

Allow long running clash tests: the clash test will run indefinitely, though the result limit will still be enforced

Calculate Overlap: Calculate the minimum orthogonal overlap distance for each clash and report it in the results

Suppress Touching: Suppresses clashes when elements are touching. Enabling this will result in clearance values being ignored by the Clash Engine

 

Suppression Rules

Suppressions Rules can be Managed or Associated to the Clash test

  

To create, modify or delete Suppression Rules select Manage All Rules

The dialog box will show the list of suppression rules available, if any.

Click on the + (plus sign) to create a new suppression rule.


 

Choose one of the provided Suppression Rule Templates

Depending on the template, the dialog box will present different fields to be filled. All fields are required.


 

If there are any Suppression Rules, they can be associated with the Clash test.

Select the suppression rules from the list and click on the Save button

Click on the Save button to save the Clash Test and return to the main Clash Test dialog box


 

Run a Clash Test

Select the Clash Tests and click on the Run button to execute the tests.

Up to 20 clash tests can be selected per individual run.

Clash Tests can be modified or deleted by selecting the Clash Test and the Edit or Delete buttons

View Results

Once the Clash Test is complete, the number of clashes found will be shown in the panel.

Click on that number to see the list of clashes

When one or more clashes are selected, the iModel Viewer will show in Red elements corresponding to Set A and in Blue elements corresponding to Set B, the rest of the elements will be greyed out to make it easier to identify the clashes


 

The tool bar at the top left corner of the panel will allow to navigate between clashes, select all/none, etc

  1. Go back to Clash Tests
  2. Previous/Next Clash
  3. Select all rows
  4. Clear selection
  5. Manual suppress selected clashes
  6. Create Issue from selection
  7. Isolate Clashes
  8. Export to CSV

The tool bar at the top right corner of the panel will allow to search for clashes, show/hide manual suppressed, and show/hide rule suppressed

  1. Show/Hide manual suppressed
  2. Show/Hide rule suppressed
  3. Search for clashes

Manual Suppression

To manually suppress one or several clashes, select the clash and click on the Suppress tool


 

Turn on Manually suppress this clash regardles of the rules and type a comment, then click Ok

Create Issues

  

Copy a Clash Test

Copy Clash test allows to copy another clash test and modify it.

Ei. After comparing Structural vs Piping, Structural vs Electrical test should be created and run.

Instead of building the entire Structural vs Electrical test, select the Structural vs Piping and click on the Copy button.

Modify the Name and Description, Remove Piping from Set B and add Electrical models or categories.

Create and Associate any needed suppression rule and Save the Clash Test.
