Template studio is where you, a user, can create new reports and modify existing reports. These include logs, site plans, quick sections, and more.
The focus here is a borehole log and how to manage the logs so they are standardized and maintained with minimum effort.
Let's start at the basic piece, and work our way to the final assembly.
A strip is one or more depth related columns, including the header, on a log. It is a element you can select to create in Template Studio. This means it resides outside of all borehole logs. Why? Because by residing outside of a log, you can use it on any log set up to use Strips. and use it as many times as you wish. And if you make a single change to this strip, it changes everywhere you are using it.
A Master Template is, simply, a Borehole Log in Template Studio. That is what you select if you were to create a new Master Template: Borehole Log. But, it has a trick up it's sleeve. It's not a hidden trick. But it is also something you have to know to look for. This something is Strip Sets.
Strip Sets are the trick on how the strips are assembled on the log and how the strips can live outside, independent of the log. A strip set determines which strips are used, the order of the strips (left to right), the width, and which strips use show/hide or expand if the hide feature is used.
The actual data, and how the data is presented is in the strip which, again, exists outside of the Master Template and Strip Set.
If you delete a Strip Set from a Master Template, the strip still exists in OpenGround. It is ready for use on another Strips Set.
Create a Strip one time. Use that strip across multiple Strips Sets and Master Templates.
A Master Template can have one or more Strip Sets. In the image below the Master Template has six strip sets. Each strip set has an assembly of strips sets. By setting things up this way, only one header/footer combination is created. Standardization is achieved. The strip sets reference the same strips so standardization is again achieved. The difference is in the subtleties and focus of each log.
The Default Master Template and Strip set that is generated is determined by the Location Type field, and set up in Professional as noted here.
