A Smart Pointer item is used to place a line with an endpoint symbol. The endpoint will almost always be a left or right arrow point symbol, but other options are available to pick.

This Object is designed specifically to be used in a well diagram using the backfill, pipework, and instrumentation tables and fields in the smart pointer object properties. It is also only intended to be used in conjunction with an adjacent column (left or right) that has a text object(s) with callouts that match either the backfill, pipe work, or instrumentation descriptions (IE in the adjacent text column all of these would typically be in a Well Details column), but you could have a separate column on either side. See documentation on Callouts.

To insert a Pointer Object into a backfill or instrumentation column, follow the steps below:

• Select the first empty box below the backfill and instrumentation objects in the column that the item is to be added to.
• Double click on the Pointer Object in the Depth Related section of the left hand side tree view.
• The Pointer Object will now be added and the text "[Smart Pointer]" is inserted in the cell.
• Define the additional properties for the object in the properties box.
  • Group - the grid that the data is being linked to.
  • Depth Top - the field that defines the top depth.
  • Depth Base - the field that defines the base depth.
  • Header – Pick the header (field) the pointer will be based on. For example If this header has data for a record then an arrow will display.
  • PointerVerticalAlignment – sets the vertical alignment of the text with respect to the depth range fields. Center will be used in almost all use cases.
  • LineColour – Sets the colour of the line on the smart pointer. Default is Black.
  • LineThickness – Sets the thickness of the line on the smart pointer.
  • LinePattern – Sets the type of line. Default is set to solid.
  • LinePatternOffset – Default is 0
  • PointerEnd – Set what side of the line the pointer end will be located. For an Arrow that is on the right side of the column use left.
  • PointerSymbol – almost all use cases will be an arrow. For example Left Arrow.
  • PointSymbolScaleX – Set the x scale of the point symbol. Default is 100.
  • PointSymbolScaleY – Set the y scale of the point symbol. Default is 100.
