How to build Master Templates and Strip Sets are already detailed here for Master Templates and here for Strip Sets. There is also the nuance of the show/hide conditions that must be used on the individual strips.
Top Tip: If a strip has a hide condition on it, the hide condition is not enacted until you select "Hide" in the Master Strip Sets window as shown below.
The bigger question is why spend the time, and what are the benefits to you as a system manager and also to the end users.
For end users creating reports there may be no change to them except knowing that standardization is being enforced for their end product. If your organization can use/choses to use the show/hide conditions, this can also result in few reports to chose from for end users which is a good thing.
The default report for a Borehole Log (a simple log or Master Template) log is based upon the Location Type in the Location Details table.
For the system administrator, the biggest reason to use Master Templates is standardization of report templates is easier, and management of reports is generally simpler. You create only one (or two) primary output Master Templates instead of 5 or 6. Changes to the header/footer are much easier to manage with fewer.
Also, the strip sets bundle and refer to those strips living outside the report.
This means you need only create any strip once and use it in different strips sets and/or reports
If you need to change something to a strip, it effects every strip set that refers to it: Create once, use in many places.
Finally, the Master Strip Set window also lets you modify the width of a strip used in the strip set without effecting the original strip. This is useful when you are creating a test pit report which typically has fewer depth related columns than an drilled borehole.
