Overview

While the information is also available in the Class Editor and Isometrics Help files, there is no continuity. This is a step by step instruction to create and use a new custom symbol in AutoPLANT Isometrics.

How do I create a new custom miscellaneous symbol in AutoPLANT Isometrics?

  1. Go to the following desktop menupick: Start > All Programs > Bentley > Plant V8i > Tools > Class Editor.
  2. Open the project you are currently using.
  3. Go to the folder: Base Piping Module > AutoPLANT Root Piping Class > Parent Class - All Base Components > Iso Drawing Symbols.
  4. Right click on Iso Drawing Symbols and go to "Insert a new component".
  5. Name the component Iso_Room (as an example of a symbol name).
  6. In the Iso_Room dialog that comes up, add the following values in a new row:

    Member Name: ISO_SYMBOL
    Member Value: %APP_DIR%\symbols\ROOM
    Owner: Iso_Room
  7. Now find the line Method Key: AT_ISO_BASE_SYMBOLS and click on the browse button next to it.
  8. Change the value to AT_ISO_GROUND.
  9. Save and close the Class Editor.
  10. Now copy the following file from:

    ..\program files\bentley\plant v8i\modules\base\miscsym.ini
    to
    ..\project name\config\modules\base\miscsym.ini
  11. Open the file in notepad and append the following section:

    [Iso_Room]
    ClassName = ISO_ROOM
    Description = Room Symbol
  12. Save and close the file.
  13. Now go to the following directory:

    ..\project name\config\mdoules\base\iso\symbols\

    Note: You will have to create the sub folders "iso" and "symbols" since they don't yet exist.
  14. Create three drawings:

    ROOM00.dwg
    ROOM06.dwg
    ROOM12.dwg

    These drawings correspond to the three orientation planes in Isometrics.

    Note: See the following dwg files as examples: ..\program files\bentley\plant v8i\modules\base\iso\symbols\
  15. Now shut down AutoPLANT if it was running, and restart AutoPLANT Isometrics.
  16. Go to the menu pick: Isometrics > Misc. Symbols...
  17. Select the new symbol: Room Symbol.
