Overview
This technote describes how to direct the BOM to sort welds by type.
The Steps
- Launch AutoPLANT Piping and open the desired drawing.
- Go to Piping > Setup > Component Update Preferences.

- Add LONG_DESCR to Fields to Include.

- Go to Piping > Database Tools > Update Components.

- Select Advanced for the Selection dialog.
- Set Data Type to 3D Drawing Data.
- Set Attribute field to SHOP_FLD.
- Set the Attribute value to 1 (Shop Weld - see table below for different values).
- Select Add under Active Query and hit OK.

- Select Component Properties tab and select BUTT_WELD as the value.
- Change BUTT-WELD to SHOP Weld.

- Perform steps 5-12 adding a description for each type of weld corresponding to the correct SHOP_FLD value. See chart below.
- Go to Piping > Reports > Bill of Materials

- Set Omit Codes to 110 and select OK.

- Select Advanced for the Selection dialog.
- Set Data Type to 3D Drawing Data.
- Set Attribute field to CLASS.
- Set the Attribute value to AT_BUTTWELD.
- Select Add under Active Query and h it OK.

The BOM will split the different weld types by description.

- - Offshore Weld
- - Offshore Field Tack Weld
- - Offshore Field Fit Weld

- - Special Site Weld
