Problem:

How to add new material to material database, writing added material to database and loading databaseĀ in AutoPIPE Vessel v41 and lower?

Solution:

1. Open AutoPIPE Vessel, click on Execute, and then click on Manage Material Database

2. We would now like to add the duplex stainless steel plate material SA 240- UNS S31803 (GR 2205) to the material database.

3. Once the Material Database Management window opens, make approximate selection for Product, Class, Norm eg. as shown below in the image. For Symbolic Name click on the one available that matches close to the material being added, eg. here SA240GR317L is selected. Numeric name/UNS No. is populated automatically following the above selections.

4. Click on Insert a copy

5. Once the Insert a copy window appears, overwrite the New Symb. Name section with the correct name, eg. SA240GR2205.

6. Click OK.

7. Go back to the Material Database Management window, observe that under Symbolic Name, the grade SA240GR2205 is now added. Click on that to make the selection.

8. Click on Edit

9. The material specification opens. Make all changes to the fields for the new material.

10. Make sure to correct the UNS No / Numeric field, notice that the Spec. No. /Name field is already updated

11. Do NOT close the word file, after making all the changes, go back to Material Database Management window and click on Apply Change.

Writing added material to database

12. Click Write database (.emdm) in the Material Database Management window. You can write the changes to an existing database eg. Material-1 as being done here or create a new database. click Save

Loading Database

13. In order to load the database, click on Load database (.emdm) and Add to opened in the Material Database Management window.

14. Select the appropriate database which needs to be loaded (here Material-1), click Open.

15. The new material has now been added, written to the database and the updated database has been loaded.

Set default material settings through Preference

16. To make the updated material database as default, go to File>Preference, then in the section Material Database path and file name, click on Browse, then select the updated database (here Material-1) and then click Open. The default material database is now set to the updated database Material-1. Whenever AutoPIPE Vessel would be opened, this particular material database would be applicable.

17. As a final check to see if the material has been added properly, open an existing emvd file and check the material section of a component.
