Problem:

Are there any known issues when saving time history analysis from newer version (ex. 12.03.00.17) back to an older version (ex. 11.01.00.24) in AutoPIPE?

Solution:

 Yes.

The issue is centered around how the newer versions of AutoPIPE saves time history analysis load as both:

THP - Time History Profile file is needed for each elbow between the defined points of the analysis. The file describes a load on the elbow for a period of time. AutoPIPE version 11.01 and lower does not support this file.

THL - Time History location. The file contains a listing of all the elbows where THP is to be applied along with options of scale and direction of load.

Where in lower versions of the program, these formatted files were called TIH and THL. The TIH and THP are essential the same file containing the same information, however the the TIL ((fixed width ASCII text) ) was renamed to THP (comma separated values). to keep in line with naming convention; Time History Profile (THP). Again, the TIH and THP are essential the same information however the format of the files are different. This is a problem  when saving a model from a higher version back to an older version. As of Jan 2021, there is no direct way of saving a THP file back to the earlier TIH format.

Workaround:

1. Manually convert each THP file back to the older TIH formatted file

or

2. If possible, save the model from an higher version to a lower version using the Save-as command, and then run a fluid transient analysis command that would automatically recreate both the TIH and THL files in the correct format. Be sure to review all files to match that of the newer version THP and THL files respectively.

Notes:

a. On opening an older model in AutoPIPE v11.2 or later, the associated TIH files will be automatically converted to THP files. This automatic conversion will only be performed once during the model upgrade. If the user later tries to copy over a set of TIH files and associate with an upgraded or a new model, it will not work. Users will need to import each TIH using the Import TIH button on the Time History Profile dialog

b. Older versions of AutoPIPE used TIH files for Time History Profile definitions. AutoPIPE has a command (Import TIH) to import an old TIH file as a Time History Profile in a newer model.

c. The Loads > Time History > Location command generates a THL file using the time history files (THP) and the points at which they are applied. The THL file can then be used as the input for a time history analysis.
