How to Configure Welded Relief Valve

Welded Relief has been required for some of the application in piping Industry. By default Bentley Spec includes the Flanged end Relief Valve. 

Background

In order to achieve Butt welded relief valves below configuration has been described.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch Specification Generator and select Project unit of working, say Metric here.

  2. Open catalog editor from File Menu, to create or enter the fields required for Relief Valve.

  3. Catalog entry can be done by modifying the existing catalog or by creating a new one. Below are the explanations to enter the data.

Using Existing Catalog

  1. Open existing catalog for an entry. 

  2. Select Existing catalog, say ‘Non-Standard’ here.



  3. Select VLVRELFL from drop down menu. It will load the existing catalog entry. See image below.



  4. Use the existing data shown in first row and copy it below the line and modify some fields shown in below image.

Using New Catalog

  1. Create new catalog for entry.



  2. Enter name of catalog and save it.



  3. The Edit Schema dialog displays. At this point the catalog does not contain any component tables. You will use the Edit Schema dialog to add tables to the catalog.
  4. Click the Import Data icon and select Import from Catalog option from the list.Note:You can also choose to import data from and Excel spreadsheet if desired.



  5. Select the table to be imported from catalog. Select VLVRELFL. Select Import structure only.
    Note: Selection to import structure and data is optional. User may choose either.



  6. Enter the desired data as mentioned, as explained in step 7 above.
    Note:For more detail on creating new catalog user may refer Specification Generator Help Menu.

  7. Enter data in spec based on the catalog entry and save spec.

  8. Launch Open Plant Modeler and verify results. It should place the relief valve with welded ends. See image below.
