Problem:

In ASCE 7 Wind profile, is basic wind speed assumed to be sustained or a gust in an AutoPIPE model?

Solution:

Wind loading in AutoPIPE converts a user-defined wind pressure into a force that acts on a piping or a beam points specified. Open the Wind dialog in AutoPIPE, select a wind load case where type = ASCE 7and press the modify button.

Place the cursor in the "Basic Wind Speed at 33 ft" field and press the keyboard F1 key.

AutoPIPE help will automatically open to display information about this field.

After reading the help one will understand that AutoPIPE uses this variable in calculating Wind loads per ASCE 7 code requirements.
