Problem:

Nozzle Axis setting on the Shell tab does not up date the Vessel/Nozzle orientation dialog in AutoPIPE Nozzle, why?

Steps to repeat:

a. On the Shell tab of the program, set Nozzle Axis = -X.

b. Open the Vessel/Nozzle orientation dialog

Why does this not hold the axis setting from the Shell tab?

Solution:

That is correct., AutoPIPE Nozzle is designed for particular workflows.

Workflow #1:

When importing a model, users are prompted to set the Vessel / Nozzle orientation axis settings on the dialog. There should be no reason to change orientation again on the Shell tab with the Nozzle / Shell axis settings after the initial setting on the dialog.

Workflow #2:

Like wise, when starting a new model, data is first entered on the Shell tab where the user sets the Nozzle axis and Shell axis. After entering data on the Shell tab, typically users will then process to the next tab to the right and continue entering data (ie.. Nozzle tab data is entered, Geometry data is entered,etc..). At one point the user will get to the Loads tab and enter data based on the axis setting made on the Shell tab.

Workflow #3:

ECO (Engineering Change Order) was issued or other reason is given requiring that the model must be updated with a different axis orientation. Open the model in AutoPIPE Nozzle, choose only one of the following options:

a. Open the Vessel / Nozzle orientation dialog dialog and make changes as required.

or

b. Select the Shell tab and make changes to the Nozzle / Shell axis settings as needed

Notes:

i. Regardless of changes made by any of the workflows above, the Loads tab data is not automatically updated to reflect the new orientation. User is urged to review their Loads tab data and manipulate loads as needed. See WIKI here for Exporting / Importing nozzle loads with MS Excel. .

ii. After pressing OK on the Vessel / Nozzle orientation dialog these settings will then become the new "Default" settings used when the dialog is re-opened regardless of changing the settings anywhere else in the program. Another words, no settings in the application influences the Vessel / Nozzle orientation dialog. Again, as mentioned in the Workflow #1 above, after setting selecting OK to the dialog, there should be no reason to change reopen the dialog to make changes. In conclusion,. the Vessel / Nozzle orientation dialog will control the Shell tab settings but the Shell tab settings do not control the Vessel / Nozzle orientation dialog.
