05. Why is Bolting Required area = 0 in AutoPIPE Vessel report?

Problem:

Found the following issues on the baseplate calculations from the output report:

a) Bolting Required Area is equal to 0;
b) Anchor bolt Combined Stress is equal to 0;

Why?

Solution:

The application appearsĀ to be working correctly. According to the report there was no load on the bolting in both horizontal and lateral directions. Bolts are used to keep vessels on the ground/structure due to wind/earthquake effects. The weight of the vessel is enough to keep the vessel on its feet without bolt when no external load act. Therefore, No load = no bolt required or

a. Bolting Required Area is equal to 0

b. Anchor bolt Combined Stress is equal to 0

Next, only square or circular base plate are available, APV Considers the equivalent circle in both case for the calculation, additional width of the rectangular plate is needed only for drawing purpose…
