Problem:
How to install multiple versions of AutoPIPE Vessel on the same computer at the same time.
Solution:
The new version of AutoPIPE Vessel is installed to the same directory folder by default. That is why the user should uninstall the previous version before installing the new version.
However, this Enhancement 75008: Enable side-by-side installation, has been logged and will be added to the next major release of the application (i.e. Select Series 2).
Until then, Yes, there can be multiple versions of AutoPIPE Vessel on the same computer at the same time. Please see the following general outline:
Install the older version of the program first. After the older version has been successfully installed, open the folder where it was installed , (default: C: \Program Files\Bentley\Engineering\), the user must manually rename the target program folder (i.e. AutoPIPE Vessel SelectSeries) of the previous release to a different name before installing the next version. Otherwise the new Setup will overwrite the default folder with files from the new version without warning.
After installing the 2nd version of the application, all the icon short cuts of the 1st version will need to be updated to the corrected folder location.
Furthermore, there are other some other minor changes in the Registry (please log a service request for details on this step).
To summarize (for example for two versions: 33.2.0.6 and 33.2.1.8):
1. Must install the versions in different folders
Version 33.2.0.6:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Engineering\ AutoPIPE Vessel 33.2.0.6
C:\Users\Public\Documents\AutoPIPE Vessel 33.2.0.6
Version 33.2.1.8:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Engineering\ AutoPIPE Vessel 33.2.1.8
C:\Users\Public\Documents\AutoPIPE Vessel 33.2.1.8
2. Create different shortcuts on the desktop
Version 33.2.0.6:
Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Engineering\ AutoPIPE Vessel 33.2.0.6\Saisie\prodia2.exe"
Start in: “"C:\Users\Public\Documents\ AutoPIPE Vessel 33.2.0.6\Puser1"
Version 33.2.1.8:
Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Engineering\ AutoPIPE Vessel 33.2.1.8\Saisie\prodia2.exe"
Start in: “"C:\Users\Public\Documents\ AutoPIPE Vessel 33.2.1.8\Puser1"
3. Whenever you run APVessel (click on the shortcut), you must change the Preferences
Also select the "Drawing" tab, the value for "Drawing Directory" should match identically to the value for "Input Data Directory" setting. If both values are identical , the results about calculation and drawing will be stored in the same folder.
And check the numbers in About Dialog:
Note: this process should be reserved for expert users, if you mix the folders, the results can be unpredictable (and wrong).
