Problem Description
Server and client library mismatch
When trying to connect to ProjectWise data source through ProjectWise explorer
"Where is it written that 08.05.01.36 is not backwards compatible"
Solution
This error indicates that you may be trying to log into a new application server with an older client version of the software or visa versa. If you are using ProjectWise 08.05.01.36. you must have identical client and server version software. Please check your version numbers to make sure they match.

IMPORTANT: Existing users of ProjectWise 2004 Edition(8.5.0.80 or 8.5.1.26) can incrementally upgrade to ProjectWise 2004 Edition Select Update(8.5.1.36) by upgrading the ProjectWise Server modules first. ProjectWise 8.5.1.36 Explorer clients will not connect to ProjectWise Application Servers with version numbers below 8.5.1.36. Existing ProjectWise 8.5.0.80 or 8.5.1.26 clients will continue to operate and can be up graded to ProjectWise 8.5.1.36 as needed.
