Overview
Either ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 1) or ProjectWise Explorer V8i can be used to connect to ProjectWise Integration Server V8i (SELECTseries 1). Keep the following points in mind if your organization decides to run both versions of ProjectWise Explorer against your new ProjectWise Integration Server V8i (SELECTseries 1):
- ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 1) and ProjectWise Explorer V8i cannot be installed on the same computer at the same time.
- ProjectWise Administrator V8i (SELECTseries 1) and ProjectWise Explorer V8i cannot be installed on the same computer at the same time.
- When using the ProjectWise V8i Import Wizard (Programs > Bentley > ProjectWise V8i > Tools > Import Wizard) against ProjectWise Integration Server V8i (SELECTseries 1), you cannot use the option, Log in as an administrator: Yes. However, you can use the option, Log in as an administrator: No, and then specify either a regular user account, or an administrative user account if necessary.
- In ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 1) there is a new document permission called Change Workflow State. This permission can be set at the project, folder, or document level, and lets administrators decide on a project-by-project basis which users can change the states of which documents. Since the Change Workflow State permission is not visible from ProjectWise Explorer V8i, ProjectWise Explorer V8i users will experience the following behaviors when this setting is on or off in ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 1):
- If the user's Change Workflow State document permission is turned OFF for a particular document in ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 1), that same user can still change the workflow state of the same document from the Document > Change State menu in ProjectWise Explorer V8i, as long as they have the Write document permission turned ON for that document.
- If the user's Change Workflow State document permission is turned ON for a particular document in ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 1), that same user will not be able to change the workflow state of the same document from the Document > Change State menu in ProjectWise Explorer V8i, if the Write document permission is turned OFF for that document. In this case however, the user will still be able to change the state of the document through the Workflow & State tab of the parent folder's Properties dialog.
- In ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 1) there is a new document permission called Free. This permission can be set at the project, folder, or document level, and lets administrators decide on a project-by-project basis which users can free which documents that are checked out or exported by other users. Since the Free permission is not visible from ProjectWise Explorer V8i, ProjectWise Explorer V8i users will not be able to free another user's document, even if they are capable of doing so in ProjectWise Explorer V8i(SELECTseries 1).
- In ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 1) there is a new feature of the ProjectWise Integration Server calledcancelable queries. This feature controls the number of items that may be returned in one search, and how long a search will be allowed to run before the search stops. When a search times out, the results gathered up to that point are returned to the user. The default number of items returned is 1024, and the default timeout setting is 30 seconds. If your ProjectWise Explorer V8i users are experiencing problems because of this new feature, then the feature can either be disabled, or the maximum number of items returned can be raised, or the timeout setting can be extended, all through the Integration Server's dmskrnl.cfg file.
- In ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 1), shapefile sets and raster sets are handled differently than they were in ProjectWise V8i. If your ProjectWise Explorer V8i users happen to break a shapefile set or a raster set that was created in ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 1), simply run the Scan for References and Link Sets wizard again from ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 1) to rescan the affected documents.
