The MAXSURF suite is licensed under SELECT Open Access. The system is designed to ensure availability. It doesn’t require hardware locks and works for extended periods without requiring connection to internet based licensing servers. It does this using a monitoring system, instead of an enforcement system.

You can review your team’s usage of the software you own via a web-based interface through a wide range of reports. These reports are available at http://selectserver.bentley.com and let you see who used what software and when. This information will be valuable to you in ensuring that you are getting best value from your software. The designated account contact for your organization will have permission to login to this server and to review these reports. This SELECTserver web portal also includes tools for managing licenses including managing check-outs, forcing check-ins of licenses, if required, and controlling access to applications.

If your recorded usage shows a peak usage that is greater than the number of licenses that you own, you may receive a Quarterly Term License (QTL) invoice to bring your software ownership into alignment with your software usage. Your Bentley account manager will contact you to discuss the usage. They will review with you whether your current license portfolio matches your license needs and can recommend a range of options to true-up to ensure you have the licenses you need. Peak usage is the maximum number of licenses that are used simultaneously within a quarter.

Here are some ways to take advantage of SELECT Open Access licensing system:

Use QTLs (quarterly term license) to lease an additional 3 month license during a busy work period.
The license tiers stack. If you own a MAXSURF Advanced license but need to assess Probabilistic Damage, use a QTL to access the MAXSURF Ultimate capabilities and only pay the difference between Advanced and Ultimate.
Work offline and on the road. You don’t need to check out a license for the whole period that you are out of the office. Your computer will log usage locally and collate that usage with other users once you are back online. So, you and your colleagues can still share a license
Pool licenses across the country so that you can access them in all your offices.

Because SELECT Open Access is a monitoring system, not an enforcement system, you need to take care not to exceed your number of owned licenses. If you have more users than number of licenses, then implement a system to ensure that users don’t start the software without checking with colleagues that the licenses aren’t already being used. There is no enforcement to limit overuse of licenses.

A MAXSURF suite license covers one user on one computer at a time. That user can run any packages from the suite and as many copies as they would like.
