If a second tee ( ex. B01) is inserted immediately at the branch of another tee (ex. A01) as first component on the branch (another words nothing between these 2 points), then the second tee (ex. B01) will inherit properties of the existing tee (ex. A01). Also, modifying properties for one of the tees will modify certain properties of the second tee (ex. B01). All piping codes are impacted by this scenario.
Also, modifying tee properties for one of the tees will modify certain properties of the other tee. ASME NB, NC, NC, and ISO 14692 codes are impacted by this scenario.
Due to incorrect modification of tee properties, the calculated stress indices, stress results, and allowable values may be lower or higher than the correct values. This may lead to unconservative results.
To illustrate this defect, the following scenario can be considered:
Step 1: Create a new model usign any Piping code (ex. ASME NB)
Step 2: Insert an anchor at the first point in the model (ex. A00)
Step 3: Insert tee ( ex. A01) of type “Other” with header connected to the anchor (ex. A02)
Step 4: Insert another tee of type “Welding” at the branch of existing tee (ex. B01)
Step 5: Open the Tee tab of Review Component Data grid
Notice that the second tee (ex. B01) inserted in step 4 has incorrectly inherited properties of the first tee (ex. A01). All piping codes are impacted by this issue.
Step 6: Change B1 stress index for any of the tees to 2.0
Notice that the stress index B1 value for the other tee also gets updated to 2.0. Following tee properties from ASME NB, NC, ND and ISO 14692 may depict this behavior:
- Fillet welded and partial penetration welded option (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- Branch configuration type (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- Use branch pipe thickness for T’b (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- Unreinforced branch thickness T’b (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- B1 (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- B2r (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- B2b (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- B2b’ (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- B2r’ (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- C1 (ASME NB)
- C2r (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- C2b (ASME NB, NC, ND)
- C3 (ASME NB)
- C3’ (ASME NB)
- K1 (ASME NB)
- K2r (ASME NB)
- K2b (ASME NB)
- K3 (ASME NB)
- Biaxial ratio (ISO 14692)
- Qualified stress (ISO 14692)
- Qualified component (ISO 14692)
The following considerations are provided to assist in your evaluation of the potential impact of this defect on the results:
1. Evaluate whether this defect has affected any existing models by considering the criteria below:
a. Was the model created or updated in program version 6.3.0 or later?
b. Was there a tee in the model inserted at the branch of another tee?
c. Is the second tee a first component on the branch?
A 'No' to one or more of the above criteria means that this defect does not affect the model’s results. No further consideration for this model is necessary.
Insert a run point at the branch of the first tee (ex. add Run node point between A01 and B01).
OR.
When modeling, after inserting the first tee (ex. A01), on the branch of this tee insert a run node point to the location where the second tee (ex. B01) would be placed. Than insert another run node point to the next point on the segment (ex. B02). Now, go back to the first run point (ex. B01) and make it the current point, use the AutoPIPE command to convert this run node point to a Tee node point (Modify > Convert Point to > Tee…).
Program should store the data of each tee separately.
Additionally, to assist in the screening of the models created in previous program versions for any potential impact by this defect, the program shall automatically examine the model database after opening the model and generate a report (model name + "_D579963.TXT"), listing the tee points potentially impacted by this defect. The program shall display the following confirmation message:
“Tee inserted at the branch of another tee incorrectly inherits properties of the existing tee due to a previous program defect #579963. Would you like to review the evaluation report?”
The contents of the critical error report shall be like the following sample critical error report:
Defect #579963 Evaluation Report
---------------------------------
Model Name: TEST1
Model Version: 09.06.02.06
Program Version: 11.00.00.17
Report Filename: TEST1_D579963.TXT
---------------------------------
Tee inserted at the branch of another tee incorrectly inherits properties of the existing tee due to a previous program defect #579963. Please refer to the published defect report for more details, mitigation conditions and instructions. To assist in the screening of this model for any potential impact by this defect, program has examined the model
database and has found that tee properties at the following tee nodes may have been stored incorrectly. Please review and update tee properties at the tee nodes listed below with applicable data.
After saving this model or running any analysis in this version or later commercial release versions, this screening will no longer be performed.
