AutoPIPE Known issue - Defect 960482

Applies To
 Product:AutoPIPE
First Affected Version:09.01.00
 Found in Version:11.04.00.10
Fixed and Released in Version:12.00.00
 Area: All
 Severity: Critical
 Backlog Issue Number:960482

Behavior

• Severity: 1 - Critical
• First Affected Build: 09.01.00
• Affected Product: AutoPIPE
• Affected Versions: Standard, Advance, Nuclear
• Program Affected: Yes
• Program Help Affected: Yes

Problem Description

SA182-F22 was deleted for ASME BPVC II-D 1998 and later editions. However, AutoPIPE’s ASME2000 and later material libraries continued to provide SA182-F22. Also, allowable stress, yield strength and design stress intensity values of SA182-F22 in AutoPIPE’s ASME2000 and later material libraries were different from those provided in ASME BPVC II-D 1992 edition. Using the allowable values from AutoPIPE’s ASME2000 material library for SA182-F22 may result in higher calculated allowable stress value as compared to allowable stress values provided by AutoPIPE’s ASME1992 material library.

Steps to Repeat

To illustrate this defect, the following scenario can be considered:

Step 1: Create a new ASME NC 2010 edition model with English units
Step 2: Insert pipe properties with any name and dimension. Use the material SA182-F22
Step 3: Insert a pipe using the pipe properties created in step 2
Step 4: Set the temperature to 600 oF
Step 5: Review the input grid. Note that the allowable stress value is set to 20.4 psi

The correct allowable stress value for this material as per ASME BPVC II-D 1992 edition at 600 oF is 17.8 psi

Evaluation Criteria

The following considerations are provided to assist in your evaluation of the potential impact of this defect on the results:

Evaluate whether this defect has affected any existing models by considering the criteria below:

1. Was the model created or updated in program version 9.1.0 or later?
2. Was the material library selected for the piping code ASME2000 or later?
3. Was there a pipe ID in the model with pipe material SA182-F22?

A 'No' to one or more of the above criteria means that this defect does not affect the model’s results. No further consideration for this model is necessary.

Workaround

Manually enter the correct allowable stress, yield strength and design stress intensity values.

Solution

AutoPIPE’s ASME2000 and later material libraries should not provide SA182-F22 material specification. Affected models shall update values of SA182-F22 to ASME BPVC II-D 1992 edition and set pipe material to non-standard ‘NS’.

“Pipe IDs with pipe material SA182-F22 are using incorrect values of allowable stress, yield strength, and design stress intensity due to previous program defect#960482. Would you like to review evaluation report?”

The contents of the critical error report shall be like the following sample critical error report:

Defect #960482 Evaluation Report
---------------------------------
Model Name: TEST1
Model Version: 09.06.02.06
Program Version: 11.00.00.17
Report Filename: TEST1_960482.TXT
---------------------------------
For AutoPIPE’s ASME2000 and later material libraries, allowable stress,
yield strength, and design stress intensity values for SA182-F22 are
incorrect due to a previous program defect #960482. Please refer to the
published defect report for more details, mitigation conditions and
instructions. To assist in the screening of this model for any potential
impact by this defect, program has examined the model database and has
found that allowable stress, yield strength, and design stress intensity
values for the pipe IDs listed below may be incorrect and are updated
to ASME BPVC II-D 1992 edition. The impacted pipe ID’s material is set
to non-standard ‘NS’.
After saving this model or running any analysis in this version or later
commercial release versions, this screening will no longer be performed.
