Out of memory exporting DGN with Solids to DWG
When saving a design file with a lot of solids as DWG, MicroStation
hangs with "out of memory (swap device may be full)" in text window.
Product: MicroStation V8i
Version: 08.11.05.17
Area: DWG
Try ACIS Entities, not Polyface Meshes
The out of memory may be caused by converting Solids and Surfaces to
Polyface Meshes. To avoid this, you might want to convert all Solids to
ACIS Entities when saving to DWG:
In the DWG Save As Options, under Entity Mapping in the General tab,
choose "ACIS Entity (Body or 3D Solid)" for "Flat Solids and Surfaces"
and "Curved Solids and Surfaces".
For AutoCAD ACIS is generally a better choice, because AutoCAD is
largely based on the ACIS engine.
Note from solution set 14330: "[In MicroStation,] ACIS solids cannot be
processed as cleanly as MicroStation native solids, also known as
"ParaSolid". ACIS solids use up much more memory than ParaSolid solids
generally do. This could cause the Virtual Memory to be used up
quickly."
Problem/solution also valid for V8i
