You can create a snapshot of the graphics displayed in a dynamic view.
Note: Capturing graphics of Dynamic Views is not compatible with earlier versions of MicroStation and AutoCAD. Earlier versions of MicroStation do not show section, forward, backward or outside graphics. DWG files also cannot capture these features of dynamic views.
Capture Dynamic Views
There are two ways of capturing graphics in a dynamic view.
- In the References dialog (File > References) select Tools > Merge Into Master. The Merge References tool settings window opens. Turn on Capture Dynamic Views.

- In the Save As V8 Options dialog (File > Save As > Options) References tab, turn on Capture Dynamic Views for Reference Merge. The Save As V8 Options dialog also opens from File > Export > DGN, DWG, DXF and in the Export File dialog, click Options.

Issue affecting graphics capture
Capturing graphics is not recommended as a way to produce drawings because the process:
- produces a static picture that can become out of date, as the elements produced are not connected to the section, detail, or elevation that produced the graphics.
- does not capture the non-graphical engineering data in the original model.
- is one-way so if you modify the resulting elements, you have no way to merge these changes back into the design model.
- cannot capture some advanced visual effects that are possible in a dynamic view.
Note: In the beta release, captured graphics may not have the correct symbology and will not preserve hatches or patterns. Also, forward, backward, and outside graphics will not be clipped. These defects will be fixed in the released version.
