I am doing ANSI flange check in AutoPIPE. For flange at point X05 calculated Gasket Effective Width is 25.4 mm. However, when I calculate it using formulas from ASME BPVC Sec VIII Div1 2013 Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Appendix 2, the result for gasket effective width, b, is 8.9 mm. Could you please advise?
In this case, the "Analysis Method" selected in this model was found to be "ANSI Check" and NOT "ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1, Appendix 2":
In the original question, ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1 Appendix 2 flange calculation was mentioned. Which from the code, the effective width was found to 8.9 mm. To reproduce this in AutoPIPE's Flange Analysis module perform the following:
1. Enter into the Flange Analysis module and select the "Analysis" tab on the dialog
2. In the Analysis Method column for the indicated node point (ex. X05) change the Analysis Method from ANSI Check, to ASME Section VII Div 1.:
3. Select the "ANSI Check" tab on the far right of the dialog, observe that the effective width section for the node point in question is no longer populated:
4. See the procedure for "How do I perform an ASME Section VIII Div 1 / 2 or Appendix XI Flange Analysis in AutoPIPE?"
5. After entering all the information correctly on the other tabs as directed by the procedure above, run the analysis and review the output report. Notice that the effective gasket width was correctly shown as 8.9 mm:
Note: If the "Analysis Method" selected in this model was "ANSI Check", the "Gasket Inside Dia" and "Gasket Effective Width" are determined by Gasket dimensions tables mentioned in the AutoPIPE help:

Gasket Data is take from the following code editions: B16.20 - 2007, B16.21 - 2011, B16.5 - 1996.
Flange Data is take from the following code editions: B16.47 - 2006, B16.5 - 2009, En1092-1 - 2008-09, JIS B 2200 - 2004.
Note:
1. For AutoPIPE v8i 09.04.xx.xx and lower flange data was stored in specified component library on the General Model Options dialog screen. Starting in AutoPIPE 09.05.xx.xx that data was move to the FlangeDimLib.mdb file located in the AutoPIPE folder.
2. The reference code editions above may be updated with future releases of the application. To confirm the code referenced for your edition review the FlangeDimLib.mdb file located in the AutoPIPE folder of your specific version.
3. If the flange / gasket data exceeds the library data, see the following WIKI here
