The Clearances tab in the Client Editor contains five sub-tabs where specific values and categories are defined for clearance validations to be utilized in SPIDAcalc. The identification values entered in each of the sub-tabs are used to create the rules in SPIDAcalc and the values are used in the clearance analysis.
Defining a Wire State
Create a new wire state entry by completing the Identification and General Weather Case fields in the Wire States sub-tab.
- Wire State Name: Use this field to define the name of the saved wire state. This will be the user-facing name within SPIDAcalc.
Imperial or metric units can be used for most of the entries below (and subsequent Properties fields) by selecting Options > Unit System in the Client Editor.
- Temperature (F or C): Enter the temperature to be applied for the weather case.
- Ice Thickness (in or cm): Enter the radial ice thickness to be applied for the weather case.
- Ice Density (lb/ft3 or kg/m3): Enter the ice density to be applied for the weather case.
- Wind (lb/ft2 or kPa): Enter the horizontal wind loading to be applied for the weather case.
Select the Enter button to define the new wire state listing or the Clear button to reset all identification and weather fields. Once the Enter button is selected, the new wire state listing is displayed in the adjacent selection tree on the right side of the screen.

Defining an Environment
Create a new environment entry by completing the Identification field in the Environments sub-tab. The values entered in the Identification Fields will be used to create the environment entry name which will appear in SPIDAcalc.
- Environment Name: Enter the name of the environment. This will be the user-facing name of the environment in SPIDAcalc.
Note: One environment can be set as the user-defined default. Where applicable, this will be the region automatically selected within SPIDAcalc.
Select the Enter button to define the new environment listing or the Clear button to reset all identification fields. Once the Enter button is selected, the new environment listing is displayed in the adjacent selection tree on the right side of the screen. (Note: The Environment sub-tabs under Clearances and Presets are duplicative; changes made in one tab will update the other.)

Defining a Wire Class
Create a new wire class entry by completing the Identification fields in the Wire Classes sub-tab.
- Usage Group: Use the combo box to select an available group from the list.
- Class Name: Enter the name for the wire class. This will be the user-facing name of the wire class in SPIDAcalc.
Select the Enter button to define the wire class listing or the Clear button to reset all identification fields. Once the Enter button is selected, the new listing is displayed in the adjacent selection tree to the right.

Defining a Component Group
Create a new component group by completing the Identification and Component Group fields in the Component Groups sub-tab.
- Name: Enter a name for the component group. This value will be used to create the component group name which will appear in the selection tree and in SPIDAcalc.
- Industry: Select an available group from the picklist.
- Owner: Select available owners from the picklist and click Add to save your selection. By default, all owners associated with the selected industry are included in the component group. (Owners are defined under the Presets tab).
- Component Type: Select a component type from the picklist.
- Usage Groups and Wire Class: If "Wire" is selected as the component type, use the subsequent picklists to select the desired usage group as well as the applicable wire class. Click Add to save your selection.
- Wires: If "Wire" or "Messenger" is selected as the component type, use this picklist to choose specific wires, clicking Add to save your selection. By default, all wires associated with the defined usage group are included.
- Type and Rule Applied: If "Equipment" is selected as the component type, use these picklists to choose available equipment as well as where to apply the rule for that equipment. Click Add to save your selection. By default, all equipment types are included.
- Equipments: If "Equipment" is selected as the component type, use this picklist to choose specific equipment for which the rule will apply. Click Add to save your selection. By default, all equipment associated with the defined type is included.
Select the Enter button to define the component group or the Clear button to reset all identification and property fields. Once the Enter button is selected, the new component group is displayed in the adjacent selection tree on the right side.

Defining a Case
Create a new clearance case entry by completing the Identification, Settings, and Table fields in the Cases sub-tab.
- Case Name: Enter a name for the clearance case. This value will be used to create the case name which will appear in the selection tree and in SPIDAcalc.
- Clearance Settings Type: Select a type of rule application from the picklist.
- Span Length Requirement: Define a minimum and/or maximum span length for when the case should be applied if applicable.
- Allowable Clearance Table: Use the Top Component and Bottom Component combo boxes to select available component groups to be added to the case table.
- Enter a value in each generated cell for desired clearance between top and bottom components (ft or cm).
- Wire States: Use the combo box to select the wire state to be applied for the case table. Enable Physical Load to apply a second wire state.
Select the Enter button to define the new case table or the Clear button to reset all case field settings. Once the Enter button is selected, the new case table listing is displayed in the adjacent selection tree using the clearance type as the top drill-down category.

Editing an Entry
To edit the properties contained within an existing entry:
- Select the entry using the selection tree to highlight the desired listing.
- Double-click the entry or select the Fill button. The current settings for the highlighted selection appear in the adjacent fields.
- Make revisions to any of the properties.
- Select the Enter button to overwrite the current properties. The revised property settings are displayed in the selection tree.
Note: If any Identification Fields entries are updated, a new entry will be generated and the initial entry will still exist in the selection tree.
Deleting an Entry
To delete an entry:
- Select the entry using the selection tree to highlight the desired listing.
- Select the Delete button to delete the entry.
