Problem:
What versions of PULS are currently available to install and what steps are available for trouble shooting a problem with the program?
Solution:
At this point the most updated installation files are:
Item #1. pls08090028en.exe
Item #2. puls08090029.zip
Item #3. PULS-International.zip
Note: Puls program is only available by logging a Bentley Service Request and requesting these files. However software updaes can be found here.
Item #1 above installs the complete PULS program on to the computer. Per the readme first file copied to the computer during installation (C:\Bentley\PULS XM\read1st.htm) the following is a list of new features and updates were added in this version:
· New Windows interface and support for Windows Vista/XP/2000
· Support for Bentley SELECT Server XM security
· New graphical interface with OpenGL with Rendering and Quad Viewport
· New Toolbar/Toolbox buttons
· Support for proposed API 618 5th Edition for pulsation and shaking force guideline
· Implement HTML help system
· Update import AutoPIPE NTL to support AutoPIPE XM
· Allow undo and redo operations
· Replace tee element with tee node
· Allow use of piston and rod diameter instead of effective area
· Replace Interactive plotting with VB chart
· Replace batch plotting with ComponentOne Print Preview
· Allow editing of unit files
· Add ComponentOne Grid interface
· Add support for long file names
· Implement AGA-8 mixtures with 20 components
· Produce a color coded plot for pulsation pressure violation ratios
· Add Result Grid for reviewing API 618 violation ratios
· Add Custom puls and split ratios for tees to auto adjust puls and flow for systems with loop
After the installation, select Help > About> see the following designation:
Item #2, contains 4 files zipped into a single file that is to be unzipped into the main installation PULS folder (C:\Bentley\PULS XM) overwriting the original files.
Errors Fixed in this update:
7083: Branch length < pipe radius causes negative pipe length and pressure drop
7095: Program crashes if number of RC conditions > 20
7112: Program crashes if more than one HE and one CE per cylinder
7114: Program crashes if cylinder numbers are entered in a certain order for NCYL > 3
Enhancements:
7115: Make rated rpm default for rpm plots
7119: Increase tolerance for shaking force unbalanced area to reduce warnings
7121: Increase number of decimals in shaking force violation table in OUT file

Unzip files to C:\Bentley\Puls XM\ folder on top of program version 08.09.00.28
Again, after completing this update, selecting Help > About the user will see the following:
Item #3, is an international language and date update. This update is to help when the application is installed on a computer with a different Language and Date format than default (English). There is no documentation or readme file with this update. Again, similar to item #2, unzip files to C:\Bentley\Puls XM\ folder on top of program version 08.09.00.28 or 08.09.00.29.

Troubleshooting:
At this point the CAE development team provides PULS software as is and only limited technical support. Suggest that you post any issues with the program to Bentley Communities forum here. so that the entire user community can help answer the question.
Known issues, at times some users may experience a problem with running a model on the software, however Bentley Technical Support has no trouble with running the same model. Only option available, in order to rule out virus protection issues, installation security issues, user permission issues, interference with other applications, computer format, etc.. try installing all 3 items mentioned above in sequence on a Virtual Machine (VM) or computer with bare minimal settings similar to that used by Bentley VM..

Person logged onto VM has full Admin rights
No virus protection installed
Bare minimal Win 7 installed
no other applications installed
