Problem:

Using ASME B31.4 2012, why are all of the reported longitudinal stress values are 0.00 in AutoPIPE reports an exported MDB files?

Solution:

On the Piping Restraint tab of the Input grids, user are able to select the following Stress Equation settings for node point pairs:

For combinations for which Von Mises or tresca stresses are calculated (Rest-Fun, Rest-Env), the total stress is calculated using the longitudinal and hoop stress values. For these combinations, AutoPIPE calculates, and stores longitudinal stress values...

For Unrestrained combinations for which stress is calculated using stress equations provided by Piping code (like Hoop, Expansion, Sustained and Occasional) longitudinal stress component (i.e. Pd/4t etc) may be calculated internally but is not stored or reported by AutoPIPE. Therefore the results are not displayed or set to 0.00.
