Modelling a steam line in AutoPIPE which has a three cut shorts in the pipe line in differing directions One in the vertical leg ( Y-axis) one in North direction (X axis) and one in the West direction (Z-axis). Should all of these cut shorts be in load case U1 or should they be U1 for one of the cold pulls U2 for the next and U3 for the last. Also is it possible to have two cut shorts is a single pipe run, say one in the middle and one in the end Or should only one be used summing the both distances ?
Any number for cut shorts can be added to the model in AutoPIPE. As indicated by the command:
The user is responsible for assigning each Cut short in the model to a specific load-case. Officially it does not matter what load-case that a specific cut short is assigned to, however the user should fully understand the implications that when said load-case appears in a combination that Cut short will be taken into account during the analysis.
Therefore to answer the question above, Yes:
1. Assign all 3 cut short directions to the same load-case (ex. U1), knowing that each time U1 appears in a combination all 3 cut shorts are considered
or
2. Assign all 3 cut shorts to individual load-cases (ex. U1, U2, U3), with the understanding that each cut short will only affect those analysis combinations containing the respective load cases (U1, U2, or U3)
Furthermore, "it possible to have two cut shorts is a single pipe run?", yes it is possible to assign multiple cut short command on a single pipe run. Again, AutoPIPE provides the flexibility to model cut short at many locations, but the user is ultimately responsible for what load-case to combine with and distance of each said cut short modeled.
