How to model Corroded Pipe or Spot corrosion?:
Question: Does AutoPIPE offer a function or upgrade that will analyze corroded pipe with the following user information:
a. Corrosion network sizes
b. Longitudinal and rotational positions
c. Minimum wall thickness at pit depths
The following enhancement has been logged: CAE-CR-10121, Add ASME B31G: Remaining Strength of Corroded pipeline.
Until this enhancement has been added to the program the only modeling approach available would be to model the piping in AutoPIPE and specify a Corrosion Allowance, found on the Pipe Properties dialog for each material associated with the corroded pipe. In addition, be sure to adjust the following Tool> Model Option settings;
Results model options:
A. Use nominal thickness - disable check box
B. Use nom. thk. for Hoop - disable check box
Edit model options:
A. Use nom. thk. for Hoop - disable check box
Refer to AutoPIPE help for details on these features and how they affect specific results.
In the case of corrosion affecting the internal surface of a pipe, AutoPIPE lacks a specific setting to input this corrosion directly. Instead, the user is required to calculate the total of both internal and external corrosion and input this combined value into the corresponding corrosion property of the pipe. This procedure should also be applied to any internal piping located within a jacketed piping system.
